scouser 4
11/12 Season thread here The Premier League 2012/2013 season fixtures have just been announced, yipee! So here's the new brand new shiny 2012-2013 thread! Hurray! To be updated later ---- Manchester City will begin their Premier League title defence with a home match against Southampton face Nigel Adkins's newly promoted side on 18 August at the Etihad Stadium. United, pipped on the final day of the 2011-12 season by Manchester City, open with a match at Everton before taking on Fulham at Old Trafford the following weekend. Arsenal, who finished third, start with a home game against Sunderland, before taking to the road with trips to Stoke City and Liverpool. Two Europa League rivals meet on the opening day at St James' Park, with Newcastle taking on Tottenham Hotspur, currently managerless after the sacking of Harry Redknapp. Roberto Di Matteo's career as the permanent Chelsea coach starts with a game at Wigan Athletic. Their first home game is against Newcastle. Brendan Rodgers's Liverpool open at West Bromwich Albion, although the first three Anfield fixtures are more eye-catching, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United the visitors. The team Rodgers left, Swansea City, now managed by Michael Laudrup, begin at Queens Park Rangers. West Ham United's return to the Premier League starts with a home match against Aston Villa, now under the leadership of Paul Lambert. Their fellow newcomers Reading will also have home advantage in their first top-flight game for four years, with Stoke the opening-day opponents. The other first-day match sees Fulham and Norwich City meet at Craven Cottage in Chris Hughton's first competitive game since replacing Lambert as the Canaries manager. Boxing Day sees Manchester United face Newcastle, while Sunderland and City meet at the Stadium of Light. Newcastle against Arsenal is the most notable of the 19 May fixtures, when West Ham and Reading play for what could be three priceless points at Upton Park. ---- Saturday 18 August 2012 Arsenal v pie-eater 207
Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to be deeply unhappy with the Premier League fixture list after it emerged that Manchester United will have to play away from home after five of their six midweek Champions League group matches, including trips to Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Aston Villa. The other away game is against Manchester City at the start of December. With City at home in the Premier League when United are away, it follows that the champions have only one trip to make after midweek European action. That game is against Chelsea at the end of November. The situation is almost a reversal from last year, when City were away from home after all six of their Champions League group ties while United had the benefit of playing at Old Trafford after every European midweek game during the group stage. Chelsea also have only one away match after their Champions League group games (against Sunderland) while Arsenal have three trips (Manchester City, West Ham United and Villa) to make. Ferguson has complained about the Premier League fixture list in the past. He was unhappy in the 2008-09 season that United were forced to play away from home after each Champions League away fixture. He also expressed his annoyance that they had to play each of the previous season's top nine away from Old Trafford in the first half of the season and suggested that United would send a representative to the Premier League to monitor how the fixtures are worked out ahead of the 2009‑10 campaign. Tubby Beaver 209
I wonder how they are worked out.
grungy-gonads 54
Gambaro, United. How exactly do they come up with these?
scouser 4
List added. Damn can't make the first home game of the season.
BagOfCrisps 24
We got Liverpool away third game. Always fun to get them all out. Funny how some fans are saying how they have a difficult or easy run in or whatever. Didn't United have an "easy run-in" this last season? Doesn't always work out does it. rach 1
No game for me this summer as well. Have a few other things planned for my time in England though, so no worries. I see Kagawa isn't going to be in the Japan Olympic team. Good for United that. I really hope he proves to be a fine addition, got a feeling he will.
Tubby Beaver 209
I think he will as well Rach. Kinda proven himself in "real" football in Germany so not as much a risk than if he came straight from the J-League
pie-eater 207
Seems like a decent enough chap. Hope he gets the games. Can't see him not myself with the weary midfield United have.
NoFakie 45
Kagawa was player of the year in Germany, so he'll be fine. He only averaged one tackle a game for Dortmund though, so I wouldn't get your hopes up about him breaking up play. I'm sure Cleverly would contribute more there. Or Anderson if you can keep him fit. The simplest way to play Kagawa is as number 10, push Rooney forward, and drop Wellbeck. Alternatively he'll have to play out wide.
Tubby Beaver 209
or you can have him playing in the hole behind the 2 forwards.......I hate 4-5-1. Have 1 midfielder sit deep and sweep and let Kagawa maraud forward supporting the forwards.
7-11 2
England through the quarter finals at Euro I see.

pie-eater 207
"This is a challenge I am really looking forward to," said Kagawa."The Premier League is the best league in the world and Manchester United is such a massive club. "This is a really exciting time for me. I can't wait to meet the team and start playing." Good to see Kagawa already speaking footie-go!
pie-eater 207
I got up a bit early to watch our brave lions play. I was confident when I found out it was going to penalties. Imagine my surprise when they didn't subsequently win!
