  • Yuzawa Now: Friday 17th January 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 33cm Snowfall at base this seas 564cm Posted on Friday 17th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Some very interesting weather going on at the moment for sure. Yesterday started off with that very nice thick layer of fresh snow, snow still falling and icicles, but in the afternoon we had clear blue skies and sunshine. Everywhere was looking stunning. Temps hovered around zero, but it probably felt a bit warmer than that. By evening, you wouldn't have thought that we had recorded 40cm of fresh snowfall nine hours hours later. And now this morning we have a lot more snow. Another 31cm of it, in fact! With 2cm from yesterday morning (post-report), that's another 33cm to add to this report. Maiko Snow Resort is this morning reporting 40cm of snowfall. Over at Kagura, the Tashiro Area is closed for the day (and so too Dragondola), and the Kagura Area is 'on hold'. At the start of the day, only the Mitsumata Area is open. The Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway might also be delayed (or not open)... they are currently checking. Other ski areas appear to be opening, though some lifts may be delayed as they deal with the snow. After today there isn't much snowfall on the forecast for the week ahead and we may get a fair amount of clearer weather. Let's just hope temperatures don't rise too much. Have fun. Take care. ----------------------- Ski area information for Friday 17th January 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 18th January 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this seas 574cm Posted on Saturday 18th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. 9:30am update: The sun is out with increasingly blue skies! It is quickly turning into a beautiful morning. Original report: There has been another 10cm of snowfall since the report yesterday morning and we can probably expect more than that at higher elevations. Light snow is still falling in places, especially north of Yuzawa. That is expected to ease off, leaving us with a cloudy morning and sun later on in the afternoon. Sometimes on days like this the sun appears sooner than forecasts would have us believe, and that might be the case today too. Today should keep quite cold, even if the sun comes out. Tomorrow looks more likely to be clear and sunny from early on in the day... but mild too (up to +5C and perhaps higher in town). Good news for the 'Yuzawa Snow Link' connections this morning. The Landau Ropeway connecting the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa with Yuzawa Kogen will be open from this morning. The other ski area in the Yuzawa Snow Link arrangement is Ishiuchi Maruyama, which is connected to at the top with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa. A special ticket is required to freely ski between those 3 ski areas. Kagura is saying that some lifts might be delayed opening this morning (dealing with snow). Other than that, other ski areas should be opening as planned this morning. It's peak season period now. It will probably be a busy weekend. Have fun and take care out there. ----------------------- Ski area information for Saturday 18th January 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 24th January 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 574cm Posted on Friday 24th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. No fresh snow for a while now... Whisper voice: Heard some rain falling late last night and early morning. Normal voice: Right now, it's a largely cloudy morning, but the sun is breaking through in places. I can't find any news of snowfall at higher elevations from any official sources, though the GALA webcam shows what looks like a dusting on the roof of the main quad. Maybe a cm or two? Today we might get to see some snow on the mountains (don't expect much) with the chance of sleet/rain in town later. So that sun breaking through might not last long. Tomorrow seems like the better chance for some 'proper' snow. Let's have it! Always find it amusing (or some other words) how some ski areas describe the snow conditions on their slopes using exactly the same descriptive wording today as they did on days when we got 40+cm of fresh snow. Hmmm... no. ----------------------- Ski area information for Friday 24th January 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 26th January 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this seas 577cm Posted on Sunday 26th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Changeable weather yesterday and overnight we have some snow. Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 5cm up top. Around 2-3cm of snow in places around town. All fresh snow is always very welcome, but several cm is not enough for a proper reset, of course. It is a cloudy morning with a chance of more light snow at times during the day today. Variable visibility around town and the mountains this morning and there is a bit of a north-westerly wind. There seems to be a problem with Mitsumata Ropeway this morning... and as of 8:30am they are not able to predict when it might be fixed and advising people to head over to Tashiro. Oh dear. Someone asked about other planned Yuzawa Town firework displays planned for this season. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Fresh snow to report! Here is what ski areas are reporting: Yuzawa Kogen: 20cm Maiko Snow Resort: 10-20cm Kagura: 15cm Our own measurement is 13cm. Maybe not as 'full on' and as much as we were expecting and hoping for, but this fresh layer is most welcome. It should have refreshed runs out there. Further snow is forecast into tomorrow, so let's hope it continues to build up. At time of report, there is some sun peeking through clouds in places. Kagura is not opening the top Number 5 pair lift due to windy conditions up there. In other news, it looks like Naeba has re-opened that top Takenokoyama lift. ----------------------- Ski area information for Thursday 30th January 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 31st January 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 48cm Snowfall at base this seas 638cm Posted on Friday 31st January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. An excellent end to the month! Yesterday there might not have been as much snow as we expected, even some sun at times, but Nature has delivered overnight. First of all, this is how much fresh snow ski areas are reporting: Kagura (Mitsumata): 50cm Yuzawa Kogen: 50cm Maiko Snow Resort: 40-50cm 48cm has just been cleared from our measuring point (since the report yesterday). This is the full reset we were hoping for. Ski areas are coping with all the snow early on and so some lifts might be delayed. The main and Tashiro Areas of Kagura are not going to be open today due to wind/weather, so only the Mitsumata Area will be open. Otherwise, all ski areas appear to be opening. Update: The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa (and Landau Ropeway) is also closed today. Limited visibility and some deep snow out there, so special care should be taken in these conditions. The snow should ease off by tomorrow, leaving us with what is forecast to be a generally calmer weekend. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Another 17cm of snow to report this morning from our measuring point, with Kagura, Yuzawa Kogen and Maiko Snow Resort ski areas all reporting 20cm. It's more like 10cm just to the north of Yuzawa in Minamiuonuma. It is still snowing early morning, though expected to stop sometime soon leaving us with a generally cloudy day. And that is what is forecast for tomorrow too. (Perhaps the chance of some sun?) After being closed yesterday due to the heavy snowfall, the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa should be open again today... though it might be a bit delayed. (It usually opens from 9:30am). • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 2nd February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this seas 655cm Posted on Sunday 2nd February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow did indeed linger for quite a while yesterday, perhaps maybe longer than expected, though it didn't really amount to much in terms of new cm... in town, anyway. Popular ski areas around town seemed very busy yesterday; probably one of the busiest days of the season so far. This Sunday morning starts overcast with quite limited visibility in places. At best, it is one of those mornings when there isn't much contrast. It will probably be a mainly cloudy day with the chance of some light snow at times. Just under 0C at 8:00am. We are still expecting quite a lot of snow this coming week. It might start with some rain/sleet tomorrow down in lower areas, but should be snowing everywhere come Tuesday. The snow clouds look set to be with us through next weekend. It's going to be very interesting to see how it all turns out... modest amounts or massive amounts? ----------------------- Ski area information for Sunday 2nd February 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 4th February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this seas 665cm Posted on Tuesday 4th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After a very bright morning yesterday and some rain last night, the snow has started overnight (and set it from dawn). At 8:30am there was 10cm at our measuring point. That has been cleared in anticipation of more. If forecasts are right, we should be getting a lot of snow this week! For the record, earlier on Maiko Snow Resort was reporting 5-10cm. Visibility is limited to poor out there. As far as I can tell, all ski areas are opening as planned. ----------------------- Ski area information for Tuesday 4th February 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 57cm Snowfall at base this seas 722cm Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. 10:15am update: It may not last long, but the clouds have cleared to some degree and we have some blue sky and the sun making everywhere look really beautiful. Original early morning report: Good morning from a cold and snowy Yuzawa. We may not have received as much snowfall as we expected during the day yesterday (about 12cm by 6pm). That was cleared... and this morning there is another 45cm on our measuring spot! That gives us a total of 60cm since yesterday morning. Yuzawa Kogen are only reporting 30cm snowfall. I am guessing there is really more than that up there! (Sometimes ski areas don't like talking about 'scary snowfall numbers'). Maiko Snow Resort is not reporting anything yet... other than there will be a delay with opening this morning. The top Kagura Number 5 lift will be closed today due to avalanche risk. The Tashiro-Kagura connecting course and a few others also seem to be closed. The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is closed too. We can expect other delays or lifts affected by all this snowfall. It is still snowing and a lot more is expected over the next few days. Perhaps worth pointing out that, at the time of this report it seems unlikely but some forecasts do indicate that we may have a lull in the snow mid-day and might even get a bit of sun. In some ways it is kind of scary, but the much fun kind of scary. (Just as long as everyone takes extra super care in the conditions and no-one gets hurt). ----------------------- Ski area information for Wednesday 5th February 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Thursday 6th February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 35cm Snowfall at base this seas 757cm Posted on Thursday 6th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well, we did get a spell of blue skies for a short while yesterday morning and the snow generally held off until the evening. Interesting to see some regions to the north of us were getting some unusually large amounts of snow. Those regions are less prepared and much less excited at the prospect of heavy snow! We have received a lot more overnight. At 8am this morning, another 35cm of snow has been cleared off the measuring point. The only ski area that has declared snowfall numbers (as far as I can tell) is Maiko Snow Resort. They are saying 40-60cm. It is currently about -3.5C in town. If forecasts are to be believed, there is still a lot more snow coming across the coming days... even beyond the weekend and into next week. We could potentially be in for some seriously large numbers! Ski areas are dealing with all this snow and again we can expect some opening delays or some lifts to be affected. This morning the top Number 5 lift at Kagura ski area is closed due to avalanche risk and poor visibility. GALA Yuzawa is open, but the Southern Area will again not be available today. ----------------------- Ski area information for Thursday 6th February 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 7th February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this seas 771cm Posted on Friday 7th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from a cold and snowy Yuzawa. Yesterday we had a lull in the snowfall once again during the daytime, with snow starting up again at night. 14cm more in total since the last report, and over 20cm just to the north in Minamiuonuma. The last 24 hours seems to be one of those times when there is more snow falling north of Yuzawa than here in our town. Having said that, at 8:30am is snowing moderately, and we still expect it to continue through the weekend and possibly into Monday with heavy snow due tonight. Generally poor visibility this morning. Super care required in these conditions. The Kagura top lift and Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa are again closed today due to the snow/weather conditions. Other lifts may well be affected, so check before heading out. ----------------------- Ski area information for Friday 7th February 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report.
