John Deere 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Share Posted October 19, 2006 FT, I only just started, used to be like you on that issue, but with the helmet tunes I have them low enough to hear everything and still chat, just background music, and maybe turn it up a bit when hiking, but not much. eskimobasecamp 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Share Posted October 19, 2006 i luv tunes when i ski, i can't hear FT shouting at me lol - no actually when i'm with people or in terrain where you MUST hear people (for safety reasons) i NEVER listen to tunes...... but eh wtf JD? i'd never hike with tunes on, that's something i would never consider and have never done. i usually listen to tunes riding around happo - but not so loud that i can't hear anything else Link to post Share on other sites

When im sking with my friends im sking with my friends. I dont care if people want to listen to music but I dont want to ski with people that are listening to music while im sking with them. Music really helps for riding pipe, as it's pretty rhythmical and is a fully enclosed man-made environment - once you've dropped in, you shouldn't have to look for anyone else. The same kind of goes for riding park, but you have to chill the volume to a level that you can still hear people if they shout that someone is splattered on a landing below, etc, and need to be a aware of snakes. resort bashing with mates is ok with music too, but as with park (which should also be with mates, hopefully!) you need it at background level, where you can hear emergency calls, beginners' high speed 90 degree edge chatter before it hits you in the back of the legs, and be able to chat on the chairlift. FT and I had a conversation with EBC in a gondola, only to find out she couldn't hear a word. grrrr (although was the conversation any different? ha ha EBC) 'In ze nature' - why would you? Riding variable non-groomed snow you want to hear the snow as much as possible, the same goes for hiking up as well. And what is better than the peace and quiet of those little stops on the way up or down, among trees or with a view, with spring birdsong or snow-muffled andrex-soft quiet? Tunes are for enlivening man-made environments, and even then you have to modify your behavior and look over your shoulder more. Link to post Share on other sites

I was attempting to be mean: - you cant ski steeps - you have a gamy leg - you cant jump off avie gates - you cry all the time and cant walk up a hill So you ski alone in resorts.
