Hokkaidough 4
What do you guys feel about resorts basically lying about snow conditions. You know saying things are good, when in fact they are obviously shite to anyone who is on the snow. It really makes me boil, I hate it. I know they have a business to run and want people to go, but if they tell some real porkers to people I'm sure they must have some irate customers from time to time. Or do Japanese just accept that? It's great that we have the now reports on here that are up front about things. Pity every resort in Japan can't be a bit more honest.
grungy-gonads 54
Boycot them. (Unless it's a really good place). Gets on my nerves as well. I can expect a slight stretching of the truth I suppose it is to be expected but a blatant lie is not on. Do resorts other places lie as well?
Fattwins 0
Tsugaike pissed me off the other day. Tey rented out the main hit park and didnt say anything at the bottom. I think that is pure BS, no park in Gifu would ever rent out the whole park.
mattlucas 0
On a weekend as well Not that I like park riding but it is stupid Tsugaike is funny as well I've seen a couple times on SJ where they say they got 120cm or 135cm of new snow when no other resorts in the Hakuba valley got any. They are just playing catchup but it certainly makes them stand out on the new snow chart
Fattwins 0
The way that things are reported is stupid. I liked when wiggles did it he went out the front door and measured from there. Got a true gauge on the snow and not the resorts reports.
SnowJapan Moderator SnowJapan.Com#4 5 Posted February 23, 2006 SnowJapan Moderator Share Posted February 23, 2006 Yeah sorry about that nothing we can do there, it is just a case of catch up. I know what Hokkaidough means though - some resorts do post outright lies on their websites saying snow conditions are good when they absolutely are not. No naming of names from us on here... Thats why we really do our best to tell it like it is on those now reports.
mattlucas 0
I know it's not your fault SJ It's Tsugaike and Cortina I think just playing catchup
Fattwins 0
We know SJ you dont have to worry about that. I have found out this year that the resorts are afraid to post the true snowfall numbers. They are afraid to post big numbers most of the time cause it keeps most of the mid levels away. Fattwins 0
After not posting during the weekends they ust catch up on the base total numbers. If they dont catch up on the base numbers their base snow will look small.
mattlucas 0
So they are playing catchup on mondays or tuesday eh Very interesting. Japanese resorts certainly have some interesting ideas
Fattwins 0
At work during the big weather the resorts were reporting very little snow. For example we had 50cms of fresh on the ground at work and the resort would report 20cms. One day we asked the resorts why they were reporting so little and their answer was lame. Actually they admitted to not reporting the true depth.
mattlucas 0
Well then why didn't you take that into account when on the weekend Cortina said they had 15cm's in their hands? Could have been 30cms It certainly looked like a lot when I looked down the valley at the ski tracks on the South Face
Fattwins 0
Mate 30 cms on crust wont make me pay for a ticket to play games with patrol. Im more than happy with a south face or 2 and the park. The Park teaches good balance and can be fun in the sun.
DumbStick 13
One place was saying that Yuzawa had excellent conditions now. Not funny actually. They shouldn't be allowed to post that kind of shit. It was pants when I was there the other day.
JellyBelly 1
Which resort did you go to DumbStick?
RockyV 0
resorts should have depth indicators out in the open where the public can see them, this would make it very difficult for them to lie (my hat goes off to Nozawa). I always check the snowdepth when I go to Nozawa and it allways corelates, no lies there.
HighlyTrainedNovaTeacher 2
Some of them do. I reckon Hokkaidough meant snow conditions rather than snow depth. After all, snow depth doesn't really make any different as long as there's enough. But if they say "best conditions" when in fact it is "totally crap", that's a more serious lie. Hokkaidough 4
Yes that is what I meant HighlyTrained dude - lying about conditions. I'm with you, not fussed about snow depth, well not once the season is going anyway.
I_HATE_CHEESE 0
I check out the Now! Reports, they are honest. Ski Resorts are like politicians I dont believe much of what they say.
joshnii 2
How would someone translate this? 良質な新雪 Am I right in saying it means "good quality fresh snow"??
