catbear 0
Hi All, I am planning a ski trip to Hokkaido in early December as the plane ticket is a lot cheaper compare to the peak season. I'd like to find out in early December, which resort will have the best snow and weather conditions in Hokkaido? Currently, I am thinking between Furano, Rusutsu, and Sahoro. Also, I cannot speak Japanese. I would appreciate if you guys can tell me where/how to book for some cheap accommendation. Thanks for your help in advance. CB.
Fattwins 0
goodluck early december is very hit and miss. go to niseko at that time of year.
DokiDokiWakuWaku 0
Club med in sahoro might be a place to go just in case there is no snow - at least you'll have something else to do.
catbear 0
According to snowjapan.com, some resort like Kiroro receive more than a meter of snow fall in November already. That's why I thought early December's snow cannot be too bad. No? CB.
Fattwins 0
how early are you planning? for a better idea search the old niseko now reports for a history of snowfall around that time. trust me its touch and go.
sava 0
yeah especially down low
cal 6
I'd honestly wait and pay a bit more - you don't want to go and end up having no snow.
rach 1
Lets hope lots of resorts will be fighting for this honour come December.
big-will 7
How much more would it be to wait a few weeks there CatBear. I'd be inclined to agree with rach. It would really suck if you went and there was no snow. Obviously.
mattlucas 0
When I was up at Niseko 2 years ago there wasn't good snow until mid Christmas break. And we were still bashing sasa and dealing with warm temperature even after Christmas. But then last year they were fully opened a bit earlier right? Any hill is hit/miss before Christmas break
Fattwins 0
exactly. that year hakuba was doing heaps better than niseko. around the 19th, a huge storm dumped a mixture of heavy to dry snow that packed out a perfect base. That said niseko is usally doing better early but its dec
Yuki's Passion 1
last year was at Shiga from the 19-26th and the base was soooo weak. At least I didnt pay for it or I woulda been bummed.
Fattwins 0
yeah that sucks dude where are you guys going this year?
scoobydoo 0
I've often heard less than brilliant reports about the snow at Shiga Kogen - it seems they don't get masses up there. Is that right?
Yuki's Passion 1
scoobydoo, it is a mecca for BC skiing in Japan and in most issues of Last Frontier and Bravoski you can often find the top J-guys eating up some epic powder. I would love to see Shiga when its going off! If you remember, most of Japan (at least honshu) had a late start last winter and the first big dump wasnt until like the 27/8th of December - but after that, woah, it was epic! Trip is same as last year FF...working it in with kouchou right now
Fattwins 0
do you need any extra instructors?

thursday 1
Let's have a repeat this coming season.
BagOfCrisps 24
That would be great. Though last season seemed to fizzle out worryingly early - even though there was tons of snow left up there.
