muikabochi 208
Only really decided to go at about 10:30 this morning as the weather was just too good and after trying to get into Iwappara where the car parks were chocca we decided to check out Kandatsu Kogen. In Yuzawa, Niigata. It is extremely easy to get to, just 2km or so from the exit of the Yuzawa IC on the Kanetsu Expressway, couldn't get much closer. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resort_map.php?resortNo=4 After the rainy-sleety kind of weather conditions yesterday we did actually get a bit of snow overnight in the area and actually the snow conditions at Kandatsu were better than I expected. Lots of the trees were carrying some fresh snow which made it all very pretty. Not perfect, but pretty decent I would say and while there were a few icy parts there was also a fair bit of powder being sprayed about as well. It wasn't as busy as I expected for a Saturday either and really we didn't have more than a minute wait at any of the lifts moving. Fun. Here's some pics including a special appearance by Mr Kamoshika. Kawaiiiiii! That's Iwappara in the background there Yuzawa town in the background: On the way home Sea of snow

tokabochi 9
Funny how Kandatsu now insist on calling themselves Kandatsu Kogen Ski Resorts (there's only one)
pie-eater 207
Is it true that they don't open the Milky Way course on the left on weekdays?
muikabochi 208
That left quad only moves on Saturdays and holidays, meaning that the course is closed too. Unfortunately.

SKI 15
On the subject of Kandatsu, is it true that they changed owners yet again just before this season?
muikabochi 208
So I heard, rumour has it they very nearly didn't open again. It's like a tradition I think.
mina2 6
Kandatsu seems to have been on the brink every year for the last 3 or 4. Friend went last week and said it was deserted. Closing some of the best runs doesn't help. A place like Kandatsu closing though would be big news. That place used to pack them in big time.
