brit-gob 9
Chelsea vs Liverpool at the weekend should be fun. Torres better play, or I want my money back!
grungy-gonads 54
Yes, it should be good. Actually I was honestly hoping he would stay. We don't want a resurgent Chelsea snapping at our heals and we play them twice still. Having said that, he could be just as rubbish there

grungy-gonads 54
It's just crazy isn't it. But I'm all for Pool splashing too much cash on a player Rafa-style. Wouldn't want them to spend it wisely! From what I have seen, he does look like a good player. But!!! Perhaps Mr Wiggles could tell us more on him.
Schneebored 0
I think he has 'potential', but IMO its too soon to slap a 35mil tag on someone who has only scored 11 goals and played half a premiership season.
pie-eater 207
That goes without saying. A ridiculous price tag.
bobby12 0
Torres: good business. We made a big profit and got some good years and service from him. He is too big for us in our current predicament, so fair play to him for wanting to go get some glory while he can. Getting 2 quality strikers instead was a good move. Carroll: seems overpriced, but I believe he is only 21. If he is going to go on to be Englands #1 it will be good business, however there is always the risk of him being a 1/2 season wonder. brit-gob 9
'Seems' overpriced? Even if he goes on to BE England #1, that doesn't mean he is worth 35 mill now.
Schneebored 0
Apparently Carrol is the next Peter Crouch.
bobby12 0
Time will tell, lets see his value this time next year.
grungy-gonads 54
Time will tell if he is a quality player. But time will tell us sod all about Liverpool paying 35 million for him now. Look at Hernandez at United. What did we pay, 7 mill? His stats are more impressive than Carroll for the season. 35 million - 7 million = 28 million. As I said before, congratulations Newcastle for ripping open the Arse of Liverpool.
Schneebored 0
Also, call me old fashioned, but I would always like to see a quick striker playing off a tall target man like Carroll. How quick is Dirk? GG is right though, time will tell.
pie-eater 207
Oh dear
scouser 4
Not happy with the way we have been ripped. But hopefully it will turn out to be a good buy, regardless of the insane price tag.
NoFakie 45
Carroll? 35M plus add-ons, pretty good business you'd have to say. Priced for potential, including potential to stay fit and on the straightish and narrow. I would have liked Elmander or someone to come in though. If we can't get another ten points and go down, the deal will prove to be a disaster. Being near the European places and having just narrowly missed wins against Spurs and Sunderland without Carroll, it should be the Toon who are speculating to accumulate, but that would be too much to expect. Good player though, and so far has scored against pretty much everybody. Torres does the same. Some of the other top strikers have very poor records against clubs at the top or in big matches. Carroll's not a bad panic buy, because he can feed on very little. The odd decent corner, for example. Better on the deck than people give him credit for too.
brit-gob 9
Is paying something for the 'potential' of a player a new concept? I hardly think so. It's just that some people get ripped off more than others. As has happened here.
NoFakie 45
Who's saying its a new concept? I'd say Carroll is closer to the finished article than Rooney when ManYoo paid 30M for him. He has the same number of Prem goals behind him in fewer matches, and many more if you include Div 2. Newcastle beat Liverpool by pretty much outplaying them a few weeks ago, so its a bit vexing for them to get one of our best players. This is not the Liverpool of old who got Beardsley off us. Torres looks overpriced too, but Chelsea need to beat off Spuds for CL. There is 20M (vs. UEFA cup) there straight away.
BagOfCrisps 24
Top 3 teams - no business done.
BagOfCrisps 24
Talk of potential and he might turn out fabulous and everthing is all well and good, but the basic fact is that Liverpool opened up their bottom and were truly rogered.
2pints-mate 0
"Big step forward", says Torres. Ouch!
Tubby Beaver 209
The English market has always been way over inflated. I like Carrol and he probably will be a good player but he isn't even fit just now!! He has to go and see a specialist about his torn thigh. I think Suarez will be a good signing though, him and Carrol up front sounds pretty tasty.....although him and Torres would've been better. Wonder how this affects Carrol's court sentence? It was put on hold on the understanding he'd be living with Nolan.....doubt he's gonna stay in Nolan's flat now. 40 mill for Bale is crazy as well.....last year he was pants, only since he's moved up into midfield has he been good. Gerrard's face must be tripping him, he's missed his window of a move to another big club and he'll just have to sit tight and hope it comes good
big-will 7
Yeah he isn't fit at the moment is he. 35 mill for a crock. Then again, Chelsea paid 50m for their crock!
