Cars are better to have on Hokkers for sure...so many onsen outta the way which are so worth going to!
ausi ski bum 1
I agree My first trip where I relied on mini bus transfers felt very restricted where as my second where I hired a car was so much better, I got out to places most Aussies never ski.
muikabochi 208
Don't tell anyone but I'm actually thinking about the possibility of taking a few weeks off and driving.... taking in some Tohoku places on the way.

Yes. Because Hokkaido NEVER gets packed during the season does it? Gotta say it is all relative. A 20 minute wait for the lifts was not uncommon for me in July - and on the whole people took that with good humor. For the newbies in our groups or sharing our chairs it would be lovely if they had the luxury of light loading a chair, or leaving an empty behind them to give them time to collect themselves from thier yard sale - but it is just not an option. Niseko at its busiest is not as busy as that. And many times you can ride right into the front of the queue and let a chair or two go by while you unclip the rear binding. EVEN in January. And besides I like chatting to people in queues...if there are no queue's I might start talking to myself
Go Native 70
Yeah besides the first ride up rush on a powder day in Hirafu there's hardly ever any major waiting for a lift even during the busiest periods. The gondola occasionally gets a bit of a queue, especially when a whole school group or two are trying to get on!
mina2 6
Do they have any "early" lifts going on up there or is it the usual 8 or 8:30am start?

thursday 1
TBH, IIRC, it was 8am with the normal lift starting at 8:30 when the riff raff can join in.
Hokkaidough 4
I'm surprised they don't do any earlier.

muikabochi 208
Kandatsu used to open at 5am or something mad. I remember one of the sj guys telling me they got up once to go at 4:30. No thanks!
Thundercat 60
Isn't it because they (or some affiliated company) offer CAT skiing early in the morning there? I remember seeing posters last year advertising first tracks at like 6am or something. But it was mecha expensive!
