Sounds likes it. "Lard Information Council"!

 

Lots of kushikatsu places use it. You don't get the taste otherwise. It might be better for you than vegetable oil depending on what's been done to the latter. Most veggie oils and margarines are mega processed.

Lard is more healthy because:
1) it doesn't break down into carcinogenic compounds as readily as vegetalbe-based oils, and will withstand a higher frying temperature, yielding a more crispy product.
2) lard has a lower viscosity at operating temperature, so more of it will drain off the food: Vegetable oil tends to cling to the food or soak in. In other words, lard-fried foods are actually less oily.
