any advice is recommended.

I have a Nikon D60 - it came with a 18-135 lens.

I would like to take more close up shots of the kids racing. Can anyone help with what lens I should be looking at...(without breaking the bank)

unless you want to go full format down the line by buying a full format camera, you do not need the 70-200.

That is a F2.8 lens with vibration reduction. It means you can shoot at fast shutter speeds in low light, and the VR will help you not blur even when hand held.

It's more expensive than the DX equivalent because it is top of the range and has all the gizmos.
