BillTheBinMan 0
I'm a little confused with one thing right now, can anyone shed some light - is "Niseko Village" basically what Niseko Higashiyama used to be, or something else? Thanks
thursday 1
Bill, "the village" ususally means Hirafu from the lifts to the main road. Higashiyama has a large hotel with new houses spreading at the base. Not a village in the sense.
HighlyTrainedNovaTeacher 2
I think you might be wrong: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/spotlight/niseko-village.html
thursday 1
ah... the revamped Higashiyama. Now that is confusing, completely forgot about that. Good marketing, same as renaming the Prince gondola to the Niseko gondola.
-30deg 0
Niseko Village is simply the renamed Higashiyama hotel resort ara..It is now managed by Hilton. Niseko Village does not refer to Hirafu.
Yuki's Passion 1
yeah, I read that in Powder Ski last night. Name changed from Higashiyama to Village. Which seems like a silly name IMO, but it is a bunch of gaijin runnin it now, right.
Curt 1
Funny how we talk about "gaijin" as being the same as us. It's like a fixed meaning word now isn't it, Japanese overseas still call Westerners "gaijin". Always makes me laugh that.
Hokkaidough 4
Crafty and confusing naming that, methinks.

.co.jp 0
Perhaps all 4 adjectives might apply. It most certainly is confusing (as been seen in this short thread).

I use it to describe any foreigner including myself living in Japan. When I travelled I would also refer to people as foreigners, even although it was actually me who was the foreigner at that time.
