How the f::: am I gonna pass it if they scap that section Actually, the last time I took it was 8 years ago so it's not so important but I'd like to go back and get 2kyu at least... at some point. bobby12 0
For sure learning kanji as a westerner is really no mean feat. If I had put 25% of my japanese study time into learning say Java and UNIX then I would be on double my salary now I think. I really feel sorry for people who study the language in order to get a job, only to find out after all that work that translators really dont get paid that much. At the 2kyu test I was talking to a girl who was doing exactly that.
bushpig 0
really? Tell that to my bank account. And for me it is only dabbling on the side. If I was doing it full time I'd be making shit-loads more. But, the money is in freelance. Not salaried work.

bushpig 0
nah, just in response to bobby12's comment.
bushpig 0
I should have phrased that differently actually. My bank account doesn't reflect it at all
grungy-gonads 54
Yes, you spend money on small sausage dogs and lenses that are bigger than said sausage dogs.
bushpig 0
exactly! But that isn't my lens or my dog! Pulled the pic from the net to show how big the new lens will be. My point is that putting all that effort into the language can be financially rewarding.
SirJibAlot 0
I wanted to take level 4 this year, but the timing sucked. I hear they run this test in the US as well - I'll have to see if I can get it done there next year - or else it's another Japan newyear holiday....
bobby12 0
they run it in many countries. i think in the US they offer it in several cities. theres also a business japanese test (JETRO maybe?) which happens more than once a year.
Yuki's Passion 1
they offer it in Atlanta, NY, Chicago, LA, and maybe Seattle?? Plus maybe 1 or 2 other cities SJA
BagOfCrisps 24
How do they time it? Don't they need to do it at the same time so no naughty boys or girls cheat?
SirJibAlot 0
I figured they probably didn't run it in Boston, i'll probably have to take the train down to Manhattan to take it, i'm sure they'll have it in NYC. My Japanese got rusty over the two months I was away, but it came back quickly - especially staying here with the outlaws...
bobby12 0
OMG I passed. It is a miracle. I honestly thought I'd pick up about 45-50%. I think I got 62% on average, though only 50.5% on the reading test which I thought should fail me!?!
farquah 0
As expected, scraped a 62% not too much of a surprise. Will prob try again next time for the elusive 1kyu!!
