muikabochi 208
Just heard today that Iwappara resort in Yuzawa won't be using the Gondola at all this season. When I have beent there I haven't really used it but still.... seems a big decision.
Oyuki kigan 0
i was really hoping to have sex in that one. Too bad.
echineko 1
Really?! With someone else?
Oyuki kigan 0
ha ha ha! i hope so. You mean that you haven't tried it? If its a nice, open Gondi (not like the Happo one), it can be nice after a day of riding.
joshnii 2
They had a realllly bad season last season and the gondola was only open at weekends I think (may be wrong). Not totally surprising. I don't think the gondola there was ever that busy.
Domokun_72dpi 0
From the sounds of it, they are having to close it down whilst they clean out the inside.... =)
Rag-Doll 0
Echineko - thanks for a laugh out loud post. Gotta think Iwappara's days are numbered, surely a place like that hasn't got much of a future.
thursday 1
still plenty of chair lifts to use. what is it? 9 for 13 runs?
muikabochi 208
The only lifts I try to use at Iwappara are the quads - especially that top quad - and the right hand side pair. The main pairs seem extra slow at Iwappara. Still the Gondola is a fairly big part of the resort to close down.
thursday 1
Sounding like this, I fear I will never get to that resort before it sinks.
grungy-gonads 54
They're not taking the thing down are they?
muikabochi 208
I doubt that. Official word on the gondola not being used is "closed for maintenance" this season. Right.
base40 0
That gondola is/was always underused I thought. Never seemed busy.
EustabiaChiq 0
I don't understand why they don't link up with Maiko. Their top lift stations look so close when you are up there. Turn two smallish mediocre areas into....one big mediocre area?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted November 9, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted November 9, 2007 There were ideas along those lines. The guys who own Yuzawa Park started building that road that goes up from behind Iwappara gondola and effectively ends at the area between Iwappara and Maiko Kogen. I saw diagrams a few years back of 2 lifts that were proposed to link it all up, but things got complicated. Can't quite remember the details of what happened, but I think the bottom line was money. Did you know that initially the plan was for Naspa Ski Garden to link up with the top of Yuzawa Kogen via a ropeway. That's another plan that didn't happen...
EustabiaChiq 0
It's a shame. If they could link a few of the smaller ones together I think it would make a big difference. Make these places a decent place to go for a day rather than just a morning.
muikabochi 208
Iwappara wanted to open tomorrow but can't - 0-10cm on their slopes. Oh well, still very early of course.
69 5
Using the gondola at Iwappara meant you had to ride too much gentle slope. The top quad is the lift to use there, that is real nippy.
