"I was not aware that a taser was used until after I left the building," Kerry's statement said. "I hope that neither the student nor any of the police were injured. I regret enormously that a good healthy discussion was interrupted."

I saw the footage on the news. The guy was totally resisting arrest. Then, when he was on the ground I heard his voice yell; "Don't tase me, dude." And then he started yelling in pain.

I couldn't see how much he was resisting when he was on the ground yelling "don't tase me."

Another guy that witnessed it said he would have tased him sooner.

When the police grab your arm and attempt to escort you, you leave. If you rip your arm away and wrestle them and force them to literally carry you while throwing a fit, they tase you.

He wasn't tased for speaking and this has nothing to do with freedom of speech.

why wouldn't he resist arrest?? From the video all he was doing was asking a question that perhaps the guy on the platform didn't want to answer so his people pulled the mike. The guy got tasered for nothing, I don't see why he was ejected, he had a valid question, he wasn't inciting anyone to riot etc, so why did the arrest and taser him??

Effing Police (were they campus security??) types piss me off

Actually he spoke for several minutes asking several difficult questions. He was also told that he no longer had the floor.

People are asked to leave assemblies all the time for disrespecting the conversation. But when you resist, you get tasered.

You can speak your mind, that is freedom of speech. You just can't disallow others to speak. He spoke and wouldn't give up the floor. Then he resisted arrest. The cop was fricking carrying him like a child throwing a fit in a grocery store. I'm sure the cops will just say they were protecting themselves from flying arms and a hostile body wrestling other cops.

The video I saw made him look pretty irate. I don't know, some people just don't know how to communicate, so they argue, then get pissed off when others don't want to respond.

I don't even like Kerry, which tells me the guy who got tasered is a republican, which is pretty rare for a political rally. Usually the dems are getting told to shut up (Cindy Sheehan) as they're the ones pissed off at the Bush Administration and never give up the floor. Do they get tasered? No. They also don't throw fits and wrestle cops.

A new word for me today, "tasered". Just on CNN before they said you can get them in platinum blue and some other colors. Charming.

I'm with samurai on this one. He was going nuts. He possible should not have been "tasered" (still researching what it actually is) but this is not just simply a case of "effing police". The guy was out of control.

of course it was effing police. If they had not used the taser, there would've been no outcry from people. It was over the top violence. The filth had him pinned down already. Just cuff him and lead him out and that would've been it. Brutal pigs.

On the clip I don't think he was over eacting at all, he asked what he was getting arrested for and no reply was given, he was then wrestled to the floor where they seemed to have him pinned down and in handcuffs then tasered. Heavy handed definitely.

I didn't hear that he had been told that he didn't have the floor, but did the guy answer his questions that were asked before he was informed that he didn't have the floor? Again I didn't hear whether that had happened or not. I think it is a prime case of "effing Police" getting a bit "effing heavy handed"

incidentally, not many people no that there is no ensshrined right to free speech in australia - there is nothing in our constitution which guarantees this

there is however, an implied right to freedom of speech. in practice it makes little difference, i was just quite suprised to learn that Australia was different to the states in this regard

Just made the 5 o clock news here. Different camera angle showing, what looked looked a woman, tasing him in the back. It was about 5 against 1. Not sure they needed a taser in that instance. While they were tasing him he was fully pinned on the floor, hardly a threat. A bit over zelous.

Sure the guy should have been manhandled out of there.

Definately a shite stirrer. But I have to go with him on this one. An extract from his web site.

The site also has what is called a "disorganized diatribe" attributed to Meyer that criticises the Iraq war, the news media for not covering the conflict enough and the American public for paying too much attention to celebrity news.

Could just as easily say the same thing for Australia or the UK too.

it more than a matter of free speecch. The guy's human rights were abused. The filth had him pinned and still wanted to play with their shock toy.

Any one of us could've been in that position, asking why the hell have we been arrested and accosted and then ZAP, have some of that you law abiding citizen. All the pigs involved should first be suspended while being investigated and have their identity published. Reap the wildwind people.
