Obviously you never went to Uni. Anyway He was being a model American by excercising his 1st constitutional amendment. And too right he did it too. I would like to say this is unbelievable but it isn`t really.America is being conditioned as a police state since Reagan.

Long live Alex Jones the voice of reason. Police state 911 baby.

Spacefrog, you obviously don't want to be saying things like that here. How can anyone presume the level of education anyone here has attained. For all you know Mantas may be a Professor or something. Smudging on someone's education does not invalidate someone's opinion.

Nobel Lauriette thursday.

Yes indeed and if you had gone to uni you would have managed to comprehend that universities are notorious for free speech, subversive ideas, downright rebellion and pillorying politicians.

Assumption about level is irrelevant.

I went to Uni as well and there was none of that shite going on. I don't know if UK universities are as subversive as US ones, I think that UK uni's are there simply to allow young people to avoid getting a job and drink and shag until you black out, I know I did!!

No your right Spacefrog, I never went to Uni. I was out working and paying taxes from the age of 15. Dont worry I got your point and I know you didn't mean any offence. None taken.

Imagine if you will that everyone in that hall wanted to 'exercise their right to free speech'. in the same way as our old mate did . We are talking about hundreds of people are we not? How long would that take? What would be the point of having Kerry, or anyone, as a guest speaker? You would never get to hear them speak!

Someone had to impose order somewhere. It was the way they went about it that is the issue.

The guy was obviously there to make a scene and supposedly much of his so called questions were actually just statements and there was quite a queue of other people waiting to ask questions. He was told he'd had enough time and they switched off the mike. He still didn't leave and so the police stepped in to escort him away from the mike. He struggled with the police and frankly that is never a good idea no matter what you are doing and how righteous you feel.

The police certainly warned him that if he did not comply (put his hands behind his back to be cuffed) that they would taser him. He didn't comply but just yelled "don't tase me dude" and so they of course tased him (he complied pretty damn quick after that). Sure the police could have, with a fair amount of physical effort, got his arms back to be cuffed but why put in all that effort and potentially hurt yourself when you can just taser the guy and usually get immediate compliance without any further risk to yourself?

I'm all for political activism and free speech but this guy was really just trying to take over the whole forum to get his political message across when others also wished to take part. Still he's got his 15 mins of fame. I wonder what monetary offers he'll receive to appear on talk shows and give exclusive interviews....

the point was that four pigs were sitting on him and still they tasered him. If I had 4 pigs on top of me, I would not be able to breathe and no torture necessary as I would certainly comply.

The guy is not likeable, but the situation could have been handled in a normal way, no taser necessary.

The point is he raised a valid point which was totally unamerican. How dare you criticise a government in war even it is the opposition. or wait he was denied his first ammendment right. Begs the question what activity is considered unamerican.

And seriously he raised a valid point and was assaulted by a group of people too stupid to be there out of their uniform. Offered no resistance and was clearly no threat and he gets tasered. The United States of Hypocrisy is really becoming a danger to the free world.

The fact that anyone could even agree with him being subdued is the sad thing. This what the US has become, it is a authoritarian police state that is far more scary than north korea or any other state that springs to mind. They just learned from others mistakes how to influence public opinion.

Exactly what point was that spacefrog?

Have you actually seen any of the footage or not? He somewhat forcefully attempted to wrench himself free from the grip of the first officers who grabbed him. He continued to struggle and refused to allow his arms to be placed behind him to be cuffed. He received repeated warnings that if he continued to fail to comply and cease struggling he would be tasered. I guess he figured that with everyone there and the cameras rolling that they wouldn't actually do it. It shouldn't be that police have to put themselves physically at risk from injury when they have other means at their disposal (like a taser).

So should this guy should have been allowed to continue with his tirade and asking more and more questions, punctuated with his own personal political statements as long as he desired? Should all the others waiting to ask questions of their own missed the opportunity whilst this guy made his big political debut? How many questions is it fair to give one person when there are many others with questions and there is limited time? If it is decided that this guy has had enough question time and he refuses to leave what do you do?

This guy was told politely enough that he'd asked enough questions and to please step away from the mike. He refused to do so and the police (the security for the event) attempted to remove him. He failed to comply with police requests and got the consequences. Using a taser to reduce the risk of injury to police officers is fine with me.

in the circumstances it is hard to put forward an argument that it was a reasonable use of force by the police. step outside of the boundaries where it is reasonable to use a taser and it becomes an assault.
i've only seen 2 vids of the incident, so i could be wrong - but while he was hogging the limelight and being a general pain, he seemed to be general polite. kerry agreed to answer the questions (if the cops had let kerry respond, he would have shut the dude down and that would have been the end of it). to me, the guy had done absolutely nothing illegal and the police had no right to forcibly eject him. in those circumstances it is perfectly reasonable to resist a wrongful arrest

This whole debate is skewed.

Why is everyone making the assumption that he was ejected from the venue and treated as he was, because of his political views or the fact that he was voicing them?

I'm not convinced his right to free speech was violated here. It was basically a one way tirade. He wasn't even remotely interested in what Kerry had to say. The fact that he was making politically charged statements is irrelevant.

He might as well have been reciting verses from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice for all the security guards cared.

basically, he was tasered when he was lying face down with his hands behind his back and about 4 officers (including a big guy) with their knees on his back. I think he was hauled away appropriately but their taser timing was ass.
