griller 9
Abe lasted a good while for Japan didn't he? So who will be next I wonder. I just hope he is as good as the good Mr Abe - and has as lovely a wife.
kkk 7
We can only hope that the guy (or lady? ) who replaces him continues with the fantastic Utsukushii Nihon initiative.
soubriquet 0
NHK news last night spent over an hour analysing this. Jeez, it's not as if Japanese PMs are the least expendible politicians.
Crudzilla 0
Ugh glad he's gone, though suprised he went before the debate that he originaly staked his leadership on (the debate on support of the US war in afghanistan). The BBC report had a scary theory that the LDP may have sacrificed Abe in a deal with the opposition to get the navy support pushed through in the debate... That would be truly scary but explain his departure before the debate. Anyway if theres one good thing that his successor can learn from Abe then it's to stay away from a certain shrine! Other than that Abe was pretty weaksauce and a bit too nationalistic in my opinion. Now that he has some free time Abe should head up here to Nagano and realise that Japan is already a freaking beautiful country
Domokun_72dpi 0
You can have Johnnie Howard, or I hear George Dubbya is also on his way out. Oh, hang on, you want Japan to prosper in happiness?, don't take em then.... =)
veronica 2
Is the guy ill or something? I heard he hadn't been too well in the last few weeks. He does actually really look tired. I can't understand how anyone would want such a job.
soubriquet 0
He's definitely ill. And he's had the guts to pull the plug. You're right V, it's no job for a sane person.
Yuki's Passion 1
Ill do it and revolutionize Japan: bring back konyoku baths, no school (whatsofackingever on Sat and Sun), no club practice 3x/day, make GW and Obon longer, make schools offer tenure more (only to you good teecha's though ),free skiing for all memebers on SJ (sorry lurkers, you suck ) and anything else that I feel like when the urge strikes me... Who's gonna put me on the ballot?

Ezorisu 0
Not quite sure about their politics, but isn't Fukuda a "nicer person" than Abe?
bushpig 0
He certainly looks more trustable and less sleazy...
echineko 1
You mean "Aso", not "Abe?
indosnm 0
Aso looks a bit like an AS hOle, but let's not let looks deceive us.. This is politics after all! Why do they need to go out an campaign anyway? The party decides who will be the next PM don't they?
brit-gob 9
I was wondering that as well. It's not as if normal folk can vote. Aso does look like Mr Sleaze for some reason, but I suppose I can't help that. I heard he was heavily into manga. Anyone know their policies other than "say what I can to get voted in"? bushpig 0
yeah that is exactly what I was thinking Indo.
Tubby Beaver 209
I'd vote for Aso just for the comedy play on his name!! Just imagine if Japan had a newspaper like the Sun, the headlines would be quality when it all goes pear shaped!!
rach 1
I bet The Sun will think of something anyway. If he wins. And if they actually covered "news" like that
