bdang007 0
Hi, I am planning a trip to japan and I have read in some websites that snowboarding is banned in some resorts, including niseko. Hopefully this is false, can anyone clarify please? Thanks!
Kumapix 0
you can snowboard nearly anywhere in Japan. Only place I know you can't is part of shiga kogen

TJ OZ 0
They were considering banning it as their knuckles drag too deep into the powder.

Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah the ridges we drag keep on making the skiers spill their champagne flutes, prawn sandwiches and caviar pots

me jane 0
There were a few runs in one of the Sapporo city resorts (can't remember which one) that were skiers only. I think I've seen signs in a few other places but where it does exist it's usually only one run or so full of 60 year old skiers so it's not a big sacrifice to avoid it. grungy-gonads 54
Extreme end parts of Shiga Kogen are skiers only (Yokoteyama/Kumanoyu & Okushiga Kogen) but that area is vast anyway so no problems there.
Tubby Beaver 209
why do they still have skiers only places??

samurai 0
I would embed this video, but it's not youtube or google. Many of you have seen it. But it deserves being repeated. http://archives.cbc.ca/IDCC-1-41-1727-11917/sports/extreme_sports/

"They don't see our point at all!".....do you see there point? "They are smart alecs...".....god forbid! "We approach them in a calm and reasonable manner"....and tell them to piss off basically, so no wonder they gave you a mouthful of cheek. 80's 'taches are great as well eh?? AET 0
Quote: why do they still have skiers only places?? Some resorts use the skiers-only angle to market themselves to "families".
Oyuki kigan 0
because all young kids in families only ski, right? if they wanna lose revenue by restricting half the resort-goers, i won't stop them.
thursday 1
they will do in my family

SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted September 12, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted September 12, 2007 I've mentioned it before somewhere, but I used to work for a resort in Yuzawa called NASPA Ski Garden (the capitals are very important). Since it opened 15 years ago it has been skiers-only and (as far as I know) there are no signs of that changing and they emphasize that point as part of their marketing. The fact is that a fair number of guests that went to the resort - and still do - choose it because of the fact that it is skiers-only. (It's also a hotel and you can get packages there that include lift tickets to Gala Yuzawa where you can snowboard, and of course there are other resorts really close by so quite a lot of snowboarders still end up staying at the hotel). Agree with the policy of not, it is one that a handful of resorts seem to believe works for various reasons and set to keep.
thursday 1
sounds fair enough and I suppose the runs would be less rutted or something.
