pie-eater 207
So anyone recommend any interesting movie commentaries on dvds. I have a lot that I haven't seen/listened to yet because they are so hit and miss. Sometimes they are really interesting while others it is just actors saying 'I really like this scene'. I think the best one I have listenred to was The Thing (John Carpenter) and the Lord of the Rings ones.
LiquidX 0
The Shawshank Redemtion one is really good, as is the movie of course.
xxx 2
Frank Darabond (?) the director of Shawshank is very interesting to listen to. Green Mile is good too.

spook 0
I’ve got to say that I’ve never made it into more than 2 minutes of commentary. I find them so incredibly boring. Y A W N
BagOfCrisps 24
I've started a few and given up they seem to be very hit and miss. The Spinal Tap one is funny though, and I believe also in Dobly which is definitely a bonus. The one over the Exorcist was interesting too.
merryJim 1
I think you've got to give it more than 2 minutes there though spook. They can be interesting. As someone who loves Shawshank the movie, it was very interesting to hear a lot of background about it in the commentary. I enjoyed the King Kong one as well. I can imagine Spinal Tap is funny - I know some of the extras on that dvd were as good as scenes that made the movie. I haven't seen some of the recent Christopher Guest movies but really want to. I think the latest one is called For Your Consideration (?)
Peter North 0
Try the Monty Python ones.
Julius No 0
The new Roger Moore commentaries on the Bond DVDs are definitely worth a listen for Bond fans. They get less relevant as the films go on, with Roger going off at tangents (and seemingly almost embarrassed about Moonraker) but make for a really good listen/watch. scouser 4
Are you a Dr, Mr No? Has Sean done any commentaries on those new dvds? I wouldn't mind hearing his candid comments.
2pints-mate 0
Try Oliver Stone. I always liked Wall Street and he gives a good natter on that one. Talking of which I want to see JFK again.
BagOfCrisps 24
The one on The Thing was good. And another good one with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell if I remember correctly was Escape From New York.
ProbablyaCrazyPerson 2
Good commentary - not movies, but try The Simpsons or Futurama. There is one for every single episode and they are almost always worth listening to.
NutteyCubey 0
The Simpsons DVDs are fantastic. Each season is full of interesting stuff on top of the actual episodes. I heard rumors they were making new Futurama as well. Now that would be sweet.
DumbStick 13
If you like Star Trek, some of the Okuda text commentaries are really interesting. Unfortunately, not enough of them - would have been great if he would have done more. That man is Mr Otaku
hayamimi 0
Good directors commentaties worth listening to (really helps if you like the movies!): Peter Jackson Frank Darabont John Carpenter All three have been mentioned by other people. Coz they are good.
HeatherLocklearRocks 1
Not a movie but the Police Squad DVD is worth a watch along with the commentaries. I remember when I first saw it thinking WFT as I was rolling on the floor laughing.
grungy-gonads 54
Police Squad! I'd love to see them again. They only made about 6, right? That was (if I remember correctly) so funny.
2pints-mate 0
The 3 disc version of Gladiator is really excellent including commentary. Well worth a listen.
