Just got a letter through the post today telling me I have to pay a re-contracting fee for my apartment as I have lived there for two years now. They want 10man plus my normal rent out of me!! Personally think its a bit steep and have never had to pay it for my last places (through different company). I can`t figure out where the money goes???? I mean what exactly am a getting for my 10man yen??? This is ontop of all the key money, deposit, etc. etc. they charged me when I moved in????!?!! \:o  wakaranai.gif shifty.gif

Pitato house or Starts whichever you want to call it. Its really pissing me off. Am trying to get a way round paying it in installments to make it easier as have just made soem pretty heafty Visa Card purchases so next month would be a very crappy one if i couldn`t!! \:\( Would have been nicer if they had given me some notice rather than dumping it on me with a week or so to pay!

that sucks mate thumbsdown.gif and it sounds a bit dodgy! I never had to pay that here, although admittedly it is a bit of an old dump, mokuzo construction, but it sounds like they are trying to bend you over the bonnet of their car!

If I ever posted something like that, the next day there would be a fire and I'd get blamed

You would think that nicole... one of those hard to understand things.

A friend told me the reason why they didn't push me for it was that it would have been a hassle to find someone to move into my place and they didn't want a fuss. So they may be open to being flexible on this silly issue.

Good luck.

Could be like NHK. They come around about every 6 months, ask me to pay, I say "no thanks" and they go away for another 6 months. I'd ignore it (unless you live in a realy kick a$$ place with a waiting list to get into).

This is apparently illegal, as is key money, even though the majority do it. I remember a friend telling me a few years back that he refused to pay it and legally they couldn't kick him out (he stayed there for a several more years). Of course it doesn't necessarily make for great relationships, but hey, that's a lot of cash that shouldn't be changing hands...

You can check with rental advisory boards here - or public lawyers (ie free lawyers). Tenants actually have a lot of rights here, it's hard to turf them out.

I'd pay it. And give them a box of manju. Personal relationships are very important in Japan. You don't know what truly frightful thing might happen if you didn't go right on along with it.

yeah I just re negotiated my apartments contract in October last year, and the landlord had the cheek to ask me for an extra 2 months rent in advance. He threatened to kick me out but hasnt yet. The company I went thru just told me to ignore him and they would handle him. SO far no problem although he has dropped off a few letters asking for money. As Im gonna be moving out soon its something I can ignore. \:\)

And for the bright side of things…

I got a letter that my landlord died and that I have to move out of my place till the end of May. It also said that I had to go to the real estate agency to fix the necessary details.

The deal I got is that I don’t need to pay any rent for the next 3 months till I move out + that they give me back in full the 2 deposit money I paid when I rented the place + I don’t have to worry for any damages I have maid.

Life is sweet sometimes. \:D

No, it's sweet for him too. He doesn't have to worry about having a foreign porn freak living in his property anymore and the damage he does to the maid.

Ocean, you're surley joking, right? If not, could I solicit you for 10 man simply because I, well, want it? You can keep the manju but if you'd like I'll take a couple of Cuban cigars. Feel free to pm me for my postal info. ;\)
