Everyone kept telling me that by the time my holiday was over I would be sick of the snow (I thought they were all insane) WHAMO one night a storm hit and it dumped and dumped and dumped I really didn't think it was going to stop AND IT DIDN'T and that is why I come back every year -

I am excited for everyone leaving soon. It looks like you are going to have HEAPS of snow if you are off to Niseko. -

Thanks MP I just bought a pair from Tactics in the US. I got the IOS which are the smaller version. I really liked the vision you got in them. Only bummer was they didn't have a pair in a colour to match my ski gear -
I think the South Island of New Zealand is very pretty but as for the skiing, bad days out number good days. Snow is really hit and miss and you have to drive about 45mins up the side of a mountain to get to the resorts everyday. Conditions are usually icy as with no tree cover the mountains get hammered by winds. Mt Hutt = Mt Shut because of how often it is closed due to the strong winds. If you like skiing ice then NZ may be for you. I know there is a Japanese gentleman who goes nearly every year because he loves the ice!!!

You can also just heat up Sweetened Condensed Milk and that turns into yummy decadent caramel.

I always remember my friend at christmas time who has now moved back to the US. Every Christmas she would decorate her house inside and out and it looked like a Christmas Grotto. You would drive up the drive way there was an amazing christmas light show and then walk into a christmas wonderland, she decorated EVERY ROOM. Everything was christma - food, cookies, drinks EVERYTHING it was great fun. She also used to do the same at every dinner party Mexican, Spanish etc. We are having Christmas at our place this year 20 people coming - Very Traditional Christmas Turkey, Ham, Roasted

Where do I buy JPN Yen
foreversnow replied to seemore's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
We still swear by Travelex online - excellent rates. Just order what you want online and then they send it to your nearest Harvey World Travel Store and you pick it up. Just get cash WAY less hassle. Cards are fine if you are going somewhere that takes cards but in my experience in Niseko most places and shops don't accept cards. Can you imagine how busy the one ATM in Niseko is going to be!!! -

Snow in Japan 2009/2010
foreversnow replied to skichef's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Just out of interest. I know we will get big dumps and they will come (maybe). Are people who are leaving soon starting to get a little nervous that there is no snow and not a lot forecasted?? We don't go until February but I have been checking the weather reports daily waiting for that first big dump of the season. -
