  1. Ok here are a few pics from last weekend, nothing impressive at all, but anyway. First pic is Yatsugatake, the others are Fujiten
  2. Not so far away I think. Koumi is about 30 mins from Saku or about the same time from Kiyosato in Yamanashi.
  3. Happyhappy no I am in Tokyo, but got a second house in Nagano, near Koumi, so popped into Fujiten on the way back. But actually not that far from Tokyo, only about an hours drive if the roads are clear. Xilr8 For me Hakuba, shiga or myokyo would be closer for me than Kagura. Would have gone to one of those resorts, but wasn't heading in that direction. Actually got several smaller resorts within 20-30 min drive from my koumi house, so will be going to them over the xmas Newyear period with my family!
  4. I couldn't resist it, 2000yen for a one day pass, free parking and blue sky. I went to Fujiten ski jo. Was only one course open, but was top to bottom snow, so could slide all the way down to the club house. The snow was a bit icy and chopped up in places but it was great to get my first slide of the season in. I went there thinking it would be empty as only one slope was open and the snow is anyway man made, how wrong I was. It was full of people more like mid season. That was my first time to ski on artificle snow, definately not like fresh pow, but not that bad either at least
  5. Mine sig no meaning, just something I thought of, and I guess it reflects what I like to do in winter!
  6. Dunno, just post when I fill I need to or when I have time to come on here!
  7. Yeah you get used to it after a while. They have no road sense here at all, always cutting corners and always cycling down the wrong side towards on coming trafic. But you are right they should cycle the same way as the cars, but they don't! It is because there are no cycling proficiency course in schools here unlike we have back home, so the kids learn all the parents bad habits and so it continues. I saw one idiot come flying down a wet road in Tokyo a couple of days ago on the wrong side, crossing over the zebra crossing when it was red for him. Needless to say he hit the deck
  8. I always take my camera up on the slopes, and like Muikabochi stick it in my rucksack or simply stuff it inside my jacket on a good day, never had any problems. Even used it when it has been dumping, but very briefly. Unless you plan to take a lot of pics when it is dumping with snow then I don't think you need any special cases. I believe the cameras do have a recommended minimum and max temp that you should use them in, which may very considerably depending on the make and model. Strangly enough sometimes it is the more expensive cameras that are less resistant to adverse conditions
  9. Lol, my house too in summer, actually it's like a fridge in summer. But don't you feel that the houses here are roasting hot in summer because they let all the heat in during summer and freezing cold in winter, because they let all the cold in?
  10. Yeah there is this onsen I went to a few years back in Izu, but I forgot the name, it is in the centre of a small village, by the river, totally open and, anyway this onsen is hot, I mean hot, the temp of the water is around 50oC. Which is probably why it is free and open to anyone to dip in. You only ever see ojisan's in it, but never the less they seem to just throw themselves in no worries. It took me ages to get in it. That is the hottest onsen I have ever been in.
  11. I think Japan is the only country in the world where the houses are colder inside than it is outside. Even in Tokyo where the winters are mild, the houses are still freezing cold at night, despite not being that cold outside. Don't some of the houses up in Hokkaido have central heating? Has that old technology not reached Japan yet?

However, once up to speed, you will have more inertia than a lighter person, which should help power you over any flat spots! Yep a belt sander wi
  13. <----has snow tyres on and car is 4wd! Gogalago, I know you want to get the extra miles from your regular tyres, but why chance it, get the winter boots on your car and be done with it. It is more than cool enough to run studless tyres now without hurting them at all.
  14. Look this is getting to become to constructive this thread, so I will bring it back in line.....
  15. Actually believe it or not I bought two diner plates and desert plates from woolies about 12 years ago now and still using them here. Unbelievable how well they have lasted, they were only cheap at the time too. I wonder how many more years they will go!!! I remember the old red and black liquorice shoe laces, used to love eating them. Actually I still do, when ever I find a pic N mix here in Japan, I usually get a bag full of sweets. Don't know what it is about the kiddie sweets, but they are tasty, don't you think?
