too bad the iphone is so damn expensive for what you get. My free phone from softbank has an mp3 player with download options, 1gig of storage, japanese/english dicitonary, gps, analog tv, 3.2 megapix camera/vid. That's the main reason why the iPhone isn't available in Japan, nobody would buy it for that money. the technology is not all that new. the touch pad is nice, but you can buy vista phones with full internet capabilities and other options not on the iPhone for about 70% less than the iPhone.

I just have the basic set up. For the quality of their programming, I think it's crap. I don't know if it is Sky or the private channels that buy material from America, but the shows are never-ending reruns. it sucks. Fox = I hate it. Every time I turn on that station, it's "24 catch up" or "American Idol season 6 encore." They try to justify their not purching new shows by calling them "catch up" or "encore". They'll even show the same show twice in one day. Nat.Geo. and Discovery are okay here and there, but also play heeps of repeats. CNN will show repeat news monday morni

It's too bad the movies don't play out as well as his books. Kind of like those musicians whose albums suck compared to their live concerts. Those stats above are ludicrous.

New Stoke!!!

While both shots are SPECTACULAR, only the first is ridable. Unridable peaks drive me nuts. But thanks... I'll be updating my desktop tomorrow;) -

Have you ever punched/hit anyone?
samurai replied to TomatoThrower's topic in General off-topic discussions
Great thread!! *warning, this could be really long. I had a few fights when growing up in elementary and junior high in MN, but they were just neighorhood scraps with other kids. You know the typical- "There's a fight at the park afterschool." I moved to east bay, california, pleasanton, when I was a junior in HS. 17. Maybe the first week of school, I heard one of those- "There's gonna be a fight after school, you going?" "Sure." (I like watchings kids punch it out.) When my caravan got to the park, there were cars parked everywhere and like 100 people in the fie -

I saw that documentary too. It looked alot like that photo, but it was called sky city. -
I invented squares of numbers ending in 5s. Actually, I always knew I learned it somewhere, but can't remember where or when. I've known that forever. That was a cool site. Cheers, Mejane. I remember numbers like mad. The order of them, the displacement of them. I play math games in my head all the time. If I see a phone number or hotel room, or address, I'll cancel it out to zero, or make it equal something else within it's vicinity. In regards to numbers, I'm mildly OC. When I was like 7, I over-heard my mom give her bank account number over the phone. sometime later (maybe month

Favourite Japanese resort
samurai replied to i9i's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Zao has some wicked, steep, tight trees that I've never encountered anywhere else in the world. It's not my favorite resort, but it does curtail some ridiculous trees. Rediculous too because of the danger involved in them. I like that. And i like tronning through danger. I will never choose one resort as my favorite. It just doesn't work in my classification spectrometer. -
Your relationship with your parents

I don't use skype, but rather an IP phone at 3 yen a minute. it's virutally free and I can call any phone anywhere. I appreciate that skype is free, but can you call cell phones, and banks, and yada yada? I currently speak to my parents 1-2 times a week and never do we consider cost; 3 yen a minute is pretty cheap for land-line quality. -
You gotta prep us for that. I've seen many of the movies that clipped that clip together, but... wasn't prepared for that. I like the music though.

Tokai. But Nichidai is literally in my neighborhood. And they knocked us out of the tourny both last year and this year... so I cheer for them. I cheer for my neighbors who beat my school. Actually- nichidai is closer to my home than my school. And I know they didn't get disqualified for an abusive coach who remains.

I don't get too into it, but I do watch some of the games. Japan High baseball is the only baseball I watch. I think it's heeps more entertaining than MLB. Did you see the Nichidai game last week? The Nichidai pitcher gave up a hit to his first at bat. Second at bat, another hit. third at bat, a homerun= a 3-0 score. I laughed. Nichidai held a meeting on the pitcher's mound. I said; pull him. I think the final score was 9-2. I don't remember who they lost to. And, just like I predicted, they all cried as they left the field. Anyway, I teach at Tokai, which is apparently a famous bas

Your relationship with your parents

TB- did your dad get a stent? What kind of surgery did he have? on topic, I am becoming more and more like my father everyday, and I'm stoked for that. My only concern is that I'll never be half the man he is. There is no person in this world more influential than my father. My mom rules too. Living in Japan is really hard. My wife is also close with her parents. Our goal this year is to figure out a way to live in both countries because being away from family sucks. -
07-08 Shopping List
samurai replied to Kumapix's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Passive carbon scrubbers? um.... no. You should just follow rule number 1; all slopes slide. then follow rule number 2; never get caught in a slide. then follow rule number 3; use all tools available to you in hopes you will never need them. yay for avi gear! The only category of gear that is required, yet you hope to never actually need. How fricking ironic of a niche is that? -
Kids Ski Racing in Japan
samurai replied to steveuden's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Actually she will have a problem racing. No problem joining a club and standing on the side of the run, listening to the coach. But perhaps a fairly large problem actually running gates. Most westerners are pretty blown away by the amount of time teams stand around and talk. Just... fyi and imo. Perhaps, being a parent, there is some way you can politely request ski time. I ride a lot of chairs and quite frankly spend much of that time wishing I could punch the coach in the face for making me pass his team run after run while they're discussing the laws of angulation. Computer Management/ Partition ?
samurai replied to samurai's topic in General off-topic discussions
cheers spacefrog. that helped a lot. I'll check out boot.ini tomorrow when I have time to sit down... -
Hey PC heads, a question... I recently installed a 100 gig harddrive in my laptop. I cloned my old 40 gig drive into it via ghost. My old 40 gig drive is now a spare backup, not plugged into my computer. Now, on my new 100g, my © drive shows a capacity of 33 gigs and there remains 59 gigs of unallocated space. Would allocating that empty space to my © drive speed up my PC? And if so, how do I do it? I think I only have one partition on my drive. (as my Computer Management Window only shows one partition, as you can see.) Yet when I boot up, I am given an option to choose XP or

Just spent a week in the twin cities. That's my home turf. One of the deceased worked with my brother-in-law, she was from my home neighborhood, held the funeral at my church. I didn't know her. I drove that highway all the time. weird. On this trip, we just followed the bipass through downtown, around the wreckage. One of our trips downtown my wife asked me; "So... if it didn't collapse last week, we'd be on it now?" "Yup." It was really creepy after passing the wreckage via the bipass, then getting back on the highway, southbound, and seeing an empty freeway next to you as

you know... Buzz Aldrin (SP?) has been preaching forever that the reason we don't go to the moon is because of all the lights. According to America's most famous astronaut, you can't land on the moon, and video tape it, without lights pointing at you! America's most famous astronaut has destroyed his own career by taking the initiative (for like- 30 years) to preach the existence of extra-terrestial life... inhabiting our own moon. Haven't you guys heard? Is this old news to you? It should be. Guys, look up... surely you have seen something in the sky you can't explain. I have... and it

you may think that oil company conspiracy theories are wide of the mark, and I agree with you... in the long term. However, oil companies are stopping immediate release of non-oil technology. It won't last. You're right... but the conspiracy, albeit short-termed, does exist. and I agree with you that hybrids and electric cars are futile as well. The same is true with flying cars. I remember asking my dad (when I was like 8) "when will cars leave the ground?" and he replied; "Why would they? ... they already have a sustainable network to function. Why would we replace roads? That just doe
