I would've thought that going from Australia you could do Thailand and then drop off all your shopping back in Oz before picking up your skis (or board) and head for Japan. Being on a long trip you would have so much luggage that getting anywhere would be a pain.

OK so one has closed down, there are still hundreds to explore. So much so that I regret having wasted my years doing the Korean resorts.

wiseman, you sure you want apartment accomodation? there are at least 3 hotels with onsite onsens and they charge from 11,000 to 15,000 yen p p p night and that's with breakfast and dinner. After a day on the slopes and you're aching all over, sit yourself in an onsen for 20mins. It's like heaven, especially with a beer.

not icy at all. it's way below and with some fresh dusting in the evening, it's great. Imagine the whole place to yourself and nobody but the lift operators around, all lit up just for you.

Patrol dude, I like the black uniforms and the storm trooper helmets. A real friendly uniform. Aside from the front, I like the way you dudes drive the snowmobile up the mountain and come back with smei-corpses. Something I'd not do for a living.

dunno about Furano ....yet. You can certainly do the trees in Niseko. The only time they nazi is when there is avalanche danger. Only once did I see a boarder get a shout in the face by the patrol and that was during an avalanche warning.

Good question. Niseko then where? If bussing, like I'd be doing, I'd try to get to Furano after Niseko.

As Hirafu, you can have the whole slope to yourself if you night ski from about 8 to closing ~9:30pm. If there's no wind, which is seldom, it's dead silent, eerily silent. For my final run of the evening, I usually finsh off with a beer at the Alpen. Aaaah Niseko, here I come.........December.

Planning my Christmas trip. If I go to Niseko again, it'll be my 4th time there. Can't seem to tear myself away from Niseko and try some other resort like Naeba or Shiga Kogen or Furano. Any suggestions to break myself away from Niseko.
