  1. No Aussie destinations on the list? I take that to mean they've all been here before, and are deciding where else they'd like to visit...
  2. Don't they have visual prompts? We just kept one eye on the road, and one on the GPS screen, and turned down the volume so we could play some tunes on the radio...
  3. And sorry I drop out every few days, but Tsondaboy, no I'm not strong in math, but we're talking high school statistics here, so I feel qualified. I think your method will only be helpful one there are a s**tload of votes placed, and it won't make an awful lot of difference then. The rankings themselves aren't that interesting (unless we are going to have some bets placed), except that we're going to see a lot of small resorts that are well liked by the small numbers of people who visit them giving them high scores, and bumping them up the rankings. And big-will... I didn't start it,
  4. Sorry big-will, but it's the only way to be able to put the Rankings' results into perspective. We need to know what we are measuring, even with something as subjectve as this.
  5. The median is the score in the middle. Say the scores are 1, 23, 45, 67, 89 then the median is 45 (the mean is also 45, but just a mathematical coincidence). If you have 99 scores, the median is the 50th score. It's a way of mitigating the significance of numbers outside the bell curve.
  6. There's a great scene in "Trainspotting", TubbyBeaver... Ewen McGregor had a few words to say on that question. Does it matter if she was English or not? An insult's an insult (even if the description is appropriate - she may well have been an English bitch)... it's his intention to insult her ethnically that was the issue, not the insult itself. If she wasn't English, should he have been charged for libel?
  7. Imagine if he had called her a Scot!!! Public flogging?
  8. You can bet he'll get his money back, once he hands it over to his head chef.
  9. Yes, worth it for a one-off experience, but I don't think we will make a habit of it... I've never tried the genuine Perigord variety, so I can't relly compare the ones we ate to those. Hopefully Bushpig is right, and soon we will be able to enjoy them more often, at more realistic prices.
  10. We bought 300g of Western Australin truffles in August do make up some of the recipes in an issue of Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine. $2500/kg, flown in fresh from WA to order. Had some friends over for dinner (3 courses all featuring truffles), and enough left over to add to an omelette for breakfast. They do have a very earthy flavour, the so-called "Umami" taste characteristics. They tend to enhance to flavours already in food, and their own flavour is hard to compare with anything else. They don't taste like other mushrooms. They go well with chicken, fish or egg dishes, but avoid
  11. Shows how much we take for granted these days. Easy to forget how much the world has changed.
  12. Not thought-provoking at all. He used the Force, and the missile was able to destroy the Death Star because of a critical design flaw, revealed by stolen blueprints. Tarkin did not retaliate until it was revealed to him (too late) that the Rebel strategy had a chance (albeit small) of success. He even refused an evacuation transport, when it was offered. I'm more troubled by the questions raised in "Clerks" about the Death Star II destruction in "Return of the Jedi"... what about all the poor unfortunate construction workers and subcontractors who had no alleigance to the Emperor, just pr
  13. You will find the same problem in all of Japan. Bring cash, and use the CC when able. Travellers' checks are a bit hit and miss, too.
  14. Similar crime, similar punishment, no argument from me there... I guess we'll find out how they deal with Renault soon enough, and I agree that we'll probably not see that principle in action. On Ralf, he's no Michael. He's been trading on the promise of his surname for too many years. He can't complain he's been deprived of good cars or reliable teams, he's jst not that good.
  15. So why are all the other disinterested teams not invoved in a class action arrangement? Why is McLaren on their own in court? Not all infringements are equal. Murder and parking offences are dealt with differently. Why not a warning for a technical mistake (assuming it was an innocent error), and a major penalty for espionage? I don't see a problem with that. Rules are rules, but the punishment should be proportionate to the crime... not that I'm arguing that that is the case here (the punishment was somewhat arbitrary, and a bit harsh), but I don't think their trangressions are in the sa
  16. But on the issue of the BMW and Williams' cool fuel (and the lack of punishment thereof), why are McLaren persuing it in court, if not to get the extra points to boost Hamilton to the top of the Drivers' title? Just to restore the appearance of fair play? I think not.
  17. That's the point of my answer... why choose only one? He's there for a whole month, why not get a taste of all the ski areas on offer?
  18. Go all the way to Hakuba from England for a whole month and only ski one resort? Madness.
  19. We were travelling with a 7 month-old infant, so we pretty much had to work to a deadline.
