  1. ummmm.....check their website. I havent been there myself but you may be dissapointed. http://www.niseko-weiss.co.jp/weiss/weiss-e.htm

But to be honest, Japan generally gets the most consistantly stable snow packs 2-3 days after a storm I've ever witnessed. Look up coastal snow pack, like whistler and you'll find out what I'm talking about. Niseko is also so increadibly flat that during the dumps, the snow is so unconsolidated, it generally wont do much but sluff, and most of those happen during or after the storm, depending on windyness and a bazzillian other factors... This is not taking into account the effe
  3. Thanks for helping with your fellow forum members education...much appreciated! Yeah I understand that a few or even many tracks for that matter does not mean the slope is safe. I was more asking the question to help myself understand why places like Niseko gets so few avalanches when they have a healthy annual snowfall and many slopes at prime sliding gradients. I was trying to theorize why this may be and I thought that one possible reason might be because alot of Niseko's off piste gets ridden HEAPS and also early on in the snowpacks timeline as well. I agree definately that if there is
  4. Niseko's rope tow got replaced with a double chair this year.
  5. Good advice....go for the ride, fight it you will end up on your arse....Oh, dont look at things you dont want to run into either!
  6. I understand with the current snow conditions that a great deal of caution is required. Is it fair to say that if an area gets ridden in from early on in the season that it helps snow to compact and bond reducing the chance of avalanche danger paticularly deep slides? Therefore an area that has not been touched with a few meters of snow on it be more likely to slide? I know this is a gross over generalisation but interested in your comments.

  8. Well I can only comment on what its like in Hokkaido as I wont have hit honshu until later this month. What I can say is that the two trips I have done up to Hokkaido (niseko/rusutsu)neither I or anyone I know have ever been hassled by the patrol up there. Most of the tree runs that are roped in Niseko have a gate with a warning sign but you are free to enter. Those that arent roped are a free for all. There is some totally out of bounds areas where you never see anyone go....why would you when there is so much terrain that the resort is cool with? I understand with the current snow cond
  9. All this is talk about ski police is making me very nervous about my first snow trip to Japan outside of Hokkaido. After two trips up north I didnt expect there would be such a difference between ski patrols policy towards inbounds off piste. Oh well.....at least most of my trip is up in Hokkaido where I know I can get the goods!

We'll be there from the 14th to about the 27th, can't wait. If you're going to be around then send me an email as I don't think I have PM priveliges on here. Bummer....dates are off unfortunately. I will be arriving 27th.
  11. That sucks man........how come you you bought it if it was old?

Rulers are only 3,000yen more than the freestyles , that's a good deal imo Too true........I got mine off ebay for the equivalent 25,000 yen though! Shipping included!

I always load up my carry on backpack with small but heavy things as the never weigh it unless it "looks" heavy!
  14. I have had the freestyles and would strongly reccomend against them. After about 3 weeks on snow they had packed out to the point where they were real difficult to ride in. For me burtons mould fits my foot best and after I binned the freestyles I picked up a pair of burton SL-6`s ( they are called SL-8`s now ) They are absolutely awesome, just enough give without the raf in and with the RAF in they a super responsive. Worth every cent I spent on them as they now have 60 days on snow and are still going strong!

The 16 year old hip-hop kids who live in my area I might just leave em be. They’re at that age when they have zero respect for anyone/anything and a real thug mentality, and I want nothing to do with it. I’m not so worried about myself, but I am worried about my van, or my house getting trashed or them starting something up with my girlfriend, as we live in a kind of rough area. I don’t enjoy conflict and I’m only in London for 6 more mon
  16. I will be on my own this coming january for a trip to Hakuba and Niseko. It is unfortunately a necceseity rather than a preference. If anyone wants to hook up for some laps between 22nd jan to 15th feb then I would be more than happy to make some plans!
  17. I always have my weight on my back leg in powder, when im going really fast the nose does tend to be getting pushed up so the balance of weight from front to back is not so exaggerated at high speeds but i cant say ive ever put my weight on my front foot in this situation. I'd say you would definately crash. I ride a 160 option freeplus and am about 75kg, You could go up a bit on your board size, I'd say a 156 would give you some more float and not be so large that you couldnt do anything else with it. I've rode a 167 burton custom in some deep fluff, it did float a little better but technique
  18. All of the bad and good points people have raised are true! I've been to niseko twice now and have loved it each time, I reckon the place has one more trip in it for me and then I will be looking further afeild. Location, snow quality and price are its best points in my mind. Last year I didnt really see and yobboish behaviour but I did see it this year. I saw a big mouthed aussie throwing another equally big mouthed aussie out the door at a-bu-cha. The previous night the same guys had broken the window at the SAME place. You wouldnt get away with it at any other place! I guess a bouncer would
