  1. I thought a true basement was something that was actually below ground. The first floor sits at ground level. My parents house has a below ground basement and then an even lower wine celler that as a kid I was always afraid of. Kind of like the movie Home Alone were the kid goes down to the basement and is terrified of the furnace.
  2. If you like Adam Sandler type humor, I watched "Grownups" tonight. Pretty funny.
  3. Carrot juice...mmmmm! Good Greek gyros...mmmm!
  4. Where I live I've only got one choice...mildly hot and sunny with occasional rain 12 months a year. But I love a good thunder and lightning storm and my true favorite is a day with those huge snow flakes slowly floating down for days at a time. It makes you feel good to be both inside looking out and outside playing (snowboarding/skiing) in the snow. Tornado weather is irie. It goes from hot and humid to suddenly cold, dry and very still....tornado coming!
  5. One joint savings account. Her demand was that we kept a million yen in it. Not the best investment at .001% interest but it gave her security. Wife had her own seperate account in exchange for me having unrestricted decision making to my brokerage/securities account.
  6. One of my biz partners has owed me $1,300 since March 2009. It's about time to get paid, don't ya think? The only regular bill I have is cell phone and I pay it on time...couldn't survive without my cell phone. Oh, and internet. Does anybody still have a land line?
  7. I've had sardines on pizza. Not bad!
  8. 1. If it weren't for the surfing channel, I'd get rid of my tv and read more books. 2. Eat more veggies. 3. Snowboard more often. 4. sleep more. 5. Get more excersise. (This is the short list)
  9. Nothing wrong with it. I didn't plan to but did cry when my grandma died. It just kind of snuck up on me....a human emotional reaction. I think I may have cried when the US re-elected Bush. I was in Japan wondering what the hell Americans were thinking.
  10. I did it to shed calories before the snowboard season. I tend to weigh more when drinking. Empty carbs!
  11. Sorry folks! Been away from the computer today (surfing). I DO drink, just not often. I don't drink beer and don't get drunk...but have no problem with those that do! I've owned a bar. It was good business. Cheers! Oh, and how long can you go without alcohol?
  12. In 2008 I went 8 months without drinking. It was in the name of snowboard training. To this day I don't drink beer. I can handle a mixed vodka or gin drink. I think my preference to not drink stems from the time I once got so drunk in college that I did something to cause some local gangsters, for whatever reason (I have a clue), to beat me up and I woke up outside an office building the next morning with a sore jaw, black eye and not knowing how I got there.
  13. This thread is bringing back memories. When the docs sawed off my cast what I saw was shocking. Atrophy sets in quickly. I looked down at a skinny Mr. Burns from the Simpsons looking leg with gross dead flaky skin (sorry folks). Rather disgusting. Took another month to be able walk withought crutches. Cloudy weather still brings pain for whatever reason. Jinxx, you live a life on the edge. I've gone skydiving once on the North Shore but b.a.s.e, paraglyding, speed riding aren't on my repetoir. I'm going to have to expand.
  14. Actually, the clinic I was first ambulanced to couldn't handle the job so I had to drive 3 hours home to Sendai to get to Tohoku Daigaku Hospital. Luckily my buddy drove my car and I drank whisky to try to kill the pain. I spent 3 months unable to ride in car (leg didn't bend), showering on the floor with a garbage bag on my cast......wasn't a fun time!
  15. Zao Eboshi has awesome curry! I'm sitting at my desk in Honoluu dreaming about it!
  16. For me it was not knowing the ski-jo. Took the first lift of the morning at Appi Kogen and didn't know the course I chose had mogles..covered by fresh powder (not good for snow boarders). I took a left, a mogul caught me and my body went right and I actually heard my leg snap. Took off my boot and a bit of bone was poking out of my skin. Three months with a cast from toes to top of leg. Hate mogles!
  17. What I like is having the priveledge of looking across the table and reading the face of the opponent. You can tell a lot about the next move by reading a person's personality...agressive, timid, etc. And then acting on it. Kind of like poker or black jack.
  18. I didn't see the chess relationship either. But I will admit that that song is in my i-tunes. I agree that person to person chess is sooooo much better than playing a computer. The computer computes your next move and doesn't have a human feel for your intuition. Chess is calculative but it's also playing against your oponent. Computer chess eliminates that aspect.
  19. Probably a terrible movie but I found myself liking it....NAPOLIAN DYNAMITE.
  20. I used to see Bruddah IZ every Sundsay at Waikiki. The city hired him for a cultural thing. Probably the last 8-10 times I saw him he was sitting in a chair, wearing his red, gold and green beany and had oxygen tanks strapped to his back with rubber hoses going into his nose. It was sad.
  21. I see you know your reggae...Lee Scratch Perry has a funny song called "Bed Jamming." You listing to Alpha Blondy as well?
  22. Sounds like you've got some dubious opponents or a cat. I've played a two week game with a college buddy. Stalemate! Pakalolo enhances all pleasures!
  23. I was thinking tonight that few people on the planet have missed hearing the lyrics of BOB MARLEY. Question: what's your favorite Bob song? I have to settle on two: Redemption Song for the lyrical contents and Three Little Birds for the genki aspects. When I wanna feel irie, the lyrics to "sun is shining, the weather is sweet, makes you wanna move your dancing feet....." do the job.
  24. One book that I read and then really thought the movie portrayed it properly was The Firm - John Grisham.
