Probably was, just the epicenter was different etc. Another good example of why the shindo system has more "meaning" to people on the ground rather than the magnitude.

Rubbish 2
joshnii replied to joshnii's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
It was heavy and mushy. I didn't like it, tell me how to enjoy it!! -
I was inspired by fukdanes thread. I was at Arai yesterday and it sucked. Although I suppose my mindset was expecting winter to still be with us but unfortunately it isn't. So I suppose if you go with spring conditions in mind, you will have a good time as there is still a lot of snow up there. It was warm , even warmer today probably.

Expo 05 (but don't take your food)

The excuse they gave of fear of poisoning - what kind of crap is that? It's got nothing to do with that, everything to do with money. I bet mummys bento is better prepared than many fast food joints they have in there. and the rest. -
I like that. What other things are there that have the i part, isn't it just ipod and related?

I sold mine to a friend for a (very nice) meal and some beers. Much better than giving it to a shop.

That would be cool. Come on boss! (or maybe he's not reading this)

So has anyone been out to drink beer and snacks with zillions of other people crammed under the sakura on a big blue mat yet? Niigata's time isn't here yet, but I'm sure some people in warmer places must have been through this tradition already.

I have a Japanese friend who absolutely LOVES those apple pies. Not tasted one myself...

Well, "into it" doesn't quite sound right. But yes I have been through a pretty big experience, and the whole subject does interest me more than it did before. I'm sure if you had, you would be too. But I'm fine, I am not and wasn't being miserable...... I was simply pointing out a thing that was on the national news that will be of interest to everyone here. That's all. (Reading your posts for a few years, I've actually thought you were the one who needed generally cheering up )

Just saw about this on the news and checked out the website.... There's this new map of Japan showing all regions and the "danger level" for earthquakes. Different colors for different predicted strength of movement if there was an earthquake there. There's a shocking great big (red - shindo 7) line straight down the middie of Nagano which looked pretty scary. It's all online (in PDF files, folks) from the following site (which at the time of writing seems to be overloaded!) http://www.jishin.go.jp/ Everyone in Japan - check it out....

English people - Wanna make a quick buck?

Does that make a difference with a portable?? I heard the games on this one would be region free as well. -
I believe it was not "magnitude 6" in Fukuoka, but "shindo 6", which is different. The earthquake at its epicentre was magnitude 7.

It is getting warm. But interestingly Niigata city was colder than Yuzawa yesterday, not sure about today. -

Winter back? A bit of a disappointment there I think... -
Late March - where to go?
joshnii replied to snobee's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Up high in Niigata is still good then./ Try Arai or Kagura for good snow, even places like Gala and others. There's more snow than usual this year so might be good even lower down than usual
