She looks as good as she ever has, but I think she had a bunch of work done (facelift, etc.), and has probably spent a good part of the last 5 years in the gym and on special diets.
  2. I'm sure it was just an "accident" that you asked if he was gay. Homophobe.
  3. The problem with the RIAA is that they have had their heads up their arses for the past 10 years. They ignored people when they complained back in the 90's that $20.00 is unreasonable for a new CD, they ignored the rise in popularity of the Mp3 format, then they ignored the rise of p2p (peer to peer) until it was way too late. P2p has never inherently been a perfect way to get music. There's always been bum files, mislabeled files, and low quality recordings. People would definitely be willing to pay reasonable prices for legitimate hi quality downloadable music. Apple is almost on the right t

When my previous company did it's 1st round of layoffs, there were people who had been hired from overseas who arrived for their 1st day of work, only to find out they were laid off the same day.... talk about a waste of time and effort!
  5. Goemon - doh! no offense! it's er.... not a waste of time at all... Go Jersey! wOOT! I like #95... 47% refer to New York as "the City"
  6. #50 is a good one: What word(s) do you use to address a group of two or more people?
  7. Apparently some Harvard graduate students with too much time on their hands, came up with this study of american dialects . Thought it was kind of interesting, and was wondering how some of these words are pronounced by all you Brits, Kiwis, and Aussies....
  8. I have a 10 giger (not the new one), and I get a solid 8 or 9 hours out of a single charge... Love my iPod, it's the best gadget i've ever bought.
  9. I've seen two different layoffs, and it's not pretty. Although neither company had security guards, they did it on friday afternoons, and everyone was asked to leave the building within the hour. It's a pretty cold affair... I wonder though... what do they do differently in Japanese companies, or UK companies for that matter??
  10. O11 - Ender - I'm a big fan of understated design. The new G5 is simple and elegant... I dig it.
  11. I think the RIAA is a sad sad organization.... this is the beginning of the end of them. Kazaa is just OK in my book anyway. Soulseek is my personal favorite for music though... any other soulseek users here?
  12. It's very easy to say "why don't they just make a machine that can be endlessly upgradeable", but unfortunately computers are just not that simple. Standards change as technology improves, so in order for technology to stay cheap and progress as fast as it does, machines will have to have a limited lifespan. But... it's all relative. Most people don't need a 2ghz powerpc processor. My folks, for example, have used a 200mhz pentium 2 machine for about 6 years... In that time, I've only had to upgrade the graphics card and add RAM. They only use it for word processing, email, web surfing... so
  13. I think the new machines are beautiful. Apples design teams are the best. They really pay attention to the details that matter. As far as the "fastest computer in the world" thing goes.... thats typical Steve Jobs. "Fastest, revolutionary, best ever, blah blah blah" ...He's a great spokesman, and apple has proven yet again that they are the masters of hype. Ocean- what kind of file was it that you needed to buy a whole new computer??? PC's are quite upgradeable these days....
  14. I'm not a big football fan, but when you have 300 pound linebackers ready to steamroll you at any chance they get, those "girly pads" don't seem so girly anymore...
  15. Quote: Originally posted by db: never buy a car with a history of mechanical problems. you must have always woo'd the ladies with romance like that...
  16. Fullhouse is one of the top 10 worst shows ever!!
  17. Quote: Originally posted by Kintaro: Japanese: wagahai wa neko de aru - Nastume Soseki I'd really like to read some japanese literature, but I read a short synopsis of that book, and it sounded like it would be really depressing. How would you describe it?
  18. Ocean- Even with the negligence that you described, I get the sense that the family in japan is not the same thing as the family in western culture. I get the impression that japanese families are not as closely knit or nurturing. That being the case, things that may seem lax or negligent to us, may in fact be the way things always were. I could be totally off, but that's the impression I get.

Step to me, son.....you will get typically American...ah, served. Let's try to grow a little repsonsibility for our own comments on this forum.. So what are you trying to say?
  20. I can tell you coming from New York, it really is a melting pot of races and cultures, and I've never categorized people as being Americans or foreigners... I suppose if you go to more rural areas like in any country, perople have a much stronger sense of what a "foreigner" is. I think most people in Japan if not all, have a very clear sense of "us and them(everyone else)". Another strange thing I've noticed is how people take criticism or praise about Japan personally. I've had conversations with coworkers and friends where I said I really loved and enjoyed Japan, and their replies were
  21. I agree that japanese youth seem uninterested and unmotivated, but isn't that the way teens tend to be in so many other developed countries. America certainly has it's fair share of apathetic teens...
  22. The meaning and use of gaijin is such a weird concept, but it makes sense. I first thought that it meant "foreigner," but I agree with Ocean. I think the real meaning is "non-japanese." I think I understand why Japan views the world as Japanese and everyone else based on its history, but I can't help think that theres just something a little bit archaic about that kind of thinking in such a modern country.
  23. Sorry if that sounded harsh.... It just rubs me the wrong way that people sue for crap like spilling hot coffee on themselves and win millions. Lawsuits have gotten more and more absurd in the last 15 years. Like the guy suing McDonalds for making him obese. Finding someone to blame for a problem has become institutionalized as of late. A little introspection on all levels would do America alot of good.
