  1. check this out for a story on the afghan girl's life now.
  2. right- i agree that this involves a lot of generalizations, but think of it this way- its someone who would pop up on your gadar, but is straight.
  3. i was fighting a hangover on sunday so i went to chill out in yoyogi park. there was a group of people taking turns strapping on a snowboard and practices holds and spins on a trampoline. it looked like fun. anyone done it? does it help when you do it for real off a kicker?
  4. the first time i went to noz last season it was weird bc everything was brown at the bottom, then you rode the gondola up to the white. only the runs from the pod gondola up were open then. so maybe it'll be the same this year.
  5. i learned to ski without poles in ski school. but then i used them. right before i stopped skiing (in middle school), my mates and i would sometimes go out without them for kicks. it was just on groomers at a crappy resort in virginia.
  6. finally got my plans together and will be there over new years. plus several weekends still.
  7. isn't greenland in north america? what about the mid east- asia? east asia and west asia seems so different. and what continent would you classify pacfic islands like new zealand and papua- australasia? thats how its done in risk. also in the game, russia is in asia.
  8. i agree with sweetaz- a guy wearing a good tie is really sexy, but if its the wrong one, it can be a turnoff. like i mentioned in the jeans thread, all the guys at my high school had to wear them. there was a group of guys who preferred bow ties, and since they were pretty hot, i like a nice bow tie too. for me, i like to wear ties a belts occasionally.
  9. whaddya mean they dont recognize the child? do they refuse to believe he/she exists?? or just believe they came magically from one parent?
  10. anyone see the recent friends episode where monica and chandler are talking to another couple about the adoption process? chandler goes to the bathroom and runs into their son and is like, "oh we're talking to your parents about how they adopted you." and he's like, "whaaaat?" pretty funny episode. anyways, some of my cousins were adopted and they always knew. seems like thats the better way to go bc keeping it a secret it just soooo huge and you have the deception and the news to deal with when you find out.
  11. i just had a long im chat with friends about the metrosexual. its ubiquitous in america. i first read about it on salon in the spring and now its popped up in time magazine in an article about webshopping for xmas. my gay friend feels its the mainstream hijacking gay culture. another thinks its just new term for closeted. i think its purely an american phenomenon, despite david beckham being its posterboy. heard ahhnolds one too, but i dont think so- hes too misogynist. my definition is a guy who has gay qualities- lots female friends, dresses smart, cooks good, is neat- but def likes
  12. there are some brands i'm totally loyal to, like apple, swatch, birkenstock. love all the products i have from them. for other brands, like clothing labels, it just makes shopping easier. for instance, i know i can find western sizes in good styles at zara, so i'll shop there when i'm in tokyo. but for a lot of things, it doesnt matter which brand (if any) i have. but people do trust brands that are familiar to them, thats why advertising works.
  13. yeah i dont really care either, but cats are way cooler. they do their own thing, wont pee on the floor, and its fun to watch them with catnip.
  14. is that your favorite movie or what? you cant stop talking about it.
  15. ender- all the other nonparochial private schools in my area had similiar dress codes, so even though we were always "fighting the system," it wasnt that bad. so youre back in tokyo eh? come see my movie saturday!
  16. i saw liz phair at a pretty cozy venue in philly. was dead center right up against the stage. supercool. all the outdoor trance parties i've been to have been v fun experiences. do these count as live concerts? some people were playing live...
  17. i've been making my own holiday cards the past couple of years. just tape/glue reprints of some pretty japanesey pics onto color paper with a cheesy message. v simple and cheap.
  18. Quote: Originally posted by Ocean11: Thinking what to wear - oh the hardship! The difficulty! The agony! dude- aloha! its hard to try to pick out outfits that look cute and yet distinguish you from the other kids wearing their "uniforms" from the gap, j crew, or abercrombie. teenagers are often trying to find and assert who they are. Erik Erikson referred to this as the "identity versus role confusion" stage of psychological development. personally, i like shopping at thrift stores to find unique threads. hmmm this reminds me of a great barbie postcard i have that says "i stayed awa
  19. i think it might be awkward for the gf to talk about her present sex life with an ex and to have him examine her. but from the current boyfriends perspective, theres nothing to worry about bc its not like shes going to get all turned on by the exam. and dude you should get your wife to the gyno to have a checkup. not to get all gross and stuff, but women need pap smears once a year, or every three at the least.
  20. i dont know why you would be worried. despite what you guys may think, there's nothing remotely sexual about an gyno exam. there shouldnt be any problem.
  21. my private school in the us didn't have uniforms, but we had a dress code. no jeans, shorts, or t shirts/sweatshirts. guys had to have dress shirts tucked in, wear ties, hair above the collar, and no facial hair. and the girls had a limit on skirt length or could wear pants. but you could always get around stuff like wearing colored jeans when that was the fashion in the early 90s or cords. or if you were a good student (like me ) you could break the dress code and wear short skirts. unnatural hair colors and piercings were always a big controversy. during hockey season, we would wea
  22. sometimes it's fun reading other people's trash.
  23. you guys are lucky. yesterday was a wet chilly day. 11degrees when i turned on the heater in the morning. definitely wearing scarves. but not gloves or hats yet.
