  1. My Dr Divx seems to produce crap too. It used to work well but now the results are not so good - perhaps I played with too many of the settings and buggered it. I changed some more settings and am trying to convert my movie again now but its telling be it will take abiout 30 hours.
  2. Yep Im in Iwate, Not too far from Mizusawa which is about 1hr south of Morioka. I haven't really spent any time at Zao so I cant say how far it is or what it is like etc.. I went to Sumikawa Snow Park in spring which was pretty cool, but didnt look like it had much but park skiing.
  3. unnn.. unnnn.. ganbaree! (that was a song on a kids program about going to the toilet.)
  4. Once upon a time, early on in my university years, there was a girlfriend who wouldnt put out. Try as I may she wasnt giving it up. She was however always fishing for the 3 magic words that I wasnt prepared to give her. Later I decided that the best way to get what I was after was to give her what she wanted even though it was a white (read big fat) lie. It didnt work straight away but I suspect it would have IF my friend didnt inadvertantly make jokes about saying "I love you" to get into girls pants. She put 2 and 2 together and made it a very long 3 hour drive back from skiing. There
  5. p.s I make no claims that I have followed my own advice in the past - but I will try from now on.
  6. Im hoping there is an expert lurking around here that can give me some advice about shooting better video... What I have already figured out: Dont use zoom unless you have a tripod, its too shaky otherwise. If you do use zoom and want to zoom in or out do it very slowly. (or very quickly and cut the change out later) "A" footage is almost always shot on a sunny day - even if the snow is not that great. Dont film warm up runs/jumps, its a waste of time, effort, tape and batteries. If its cold outside and you take your camera inside when you are getting lunch or
  7. a good camera and as importantly a good jacket. A good jacket has a convenient pocket acccesable from the outside so you can whip it out (the camera) and film at a moments notice and put it away again as quickly.
  8. Its not all that far down to Tokyo from Iwate. 6 hours drive can be done in a morning or a 2.5hr shinkansen. There are no real mountains to cross so its fairly straight and flat. There are a few people that shink up to hachimantai for weekends from Tokyo.
  9. I was told that debusen meant fetish for fatties and babasen was fetish for old ladies etc..
  10. also try Yamagata, Aomori, Morioka P.S as a English Teacher you will be doing morning skiing as you will be working at night. I skied from 8:30 - 11:15 then worked 12-9. Good for fresh tracks but not so easy to get out of bed so early for a night person like me. Still, a few deep pow turns made work seem a less significant part of my day. p.s If you live a bit further north than FT the snow for night skiing is the same as the day skiing - powdery.
  11. I had a good look for the avie control bit but I didnt see it - where did you find it? They could have made the site a bit easier to navigate.
  12. Yamakashi, if I had wanted to say "Yamakashi, nothing in Niseko has changed in the last 6 years that you have been skiing there" I would have said "Yamakashi, nothing in Niseko has changed in the last 6 years that you have been skiing there" but I didnt want to say that because that isn't true. what I wanted to say was "Its not nearly as bad as you are all making out." so to do that I typed "Its not nearly as bad as you are all making out." and a few rolling eyes right back at ya and one of these for good measure
  13. What a bunch of drama queens. Its not nearly as bad as you are all making out. Its pretty hard to not have a good time if you go there.
  14. Good to see most of them saying that you need to be a qualified instructor to teach. A few years ago they would hire anybody.
  15. Quote: Originally posted by Toque: Well I learned one thing this morning. While we are all very funny people the trolls do need to be here to make this topic really go anywhere. I tried Toque but no one took my bait. I have a fairly quiet day at work today so I may try again later. Fattwins - I am out of here on the 30th - no time to waste - finish work on Friday night and get on the overnight bus to the airport and gone on Saturday morning and skiing a few days later. definately time for a change.
  16. There is no excuse for going off the trails at a ski resort. Those are the rules so you should follow them. Besides, its dangerous out there, you could get yourself killed. (Am I convincing?)
  17. I just got conformation from a real life japanese person that you are correct.
  18. Here are some more words you may or may not find useful. (no ones judging here) debusen babasen (word for bald goes here)sen
  19. sounds to me like you were at the wrong places... At appi the full line of next years salomons were demoable and later at Hachimantai all of next years fat skis were there for demo - but we had to fill out forms about what we thought of the ski for the magazine doing the test.
  20. When its snowing and the signs change to 50 do the cameras change to 50 too?
  21. I have and love a dakine hellipro - there is a larger version available now to. My old salomon bag done the upside down V thing and it wasnt so good - I love the diagonol system. Much faster and easier to use and the tails dont bump your legs and the tips dont bump the back of your head. They are on the page fattwins linked to.
  22. I know I should go and search other forums for this info but you sound like you might know... Is deinterlacing only an advantage for playback on a computer screen? My goal is to conver the final product to MPEG2 and then to dvd and will likely be watched on regular TVs. Will deinterlacing (and or using cinelook and making it 24fps) be of any use if it is to be played back on a regular TV.
