Fatts, I've always been here, just quiet. Thanks for your efforts. You are making great strides forward. -

Absolutely true, CB but the converse is not necessarily true. i.e. your picture is still good without the first. And I also wanted to add in a third picture which would make your picture worthless without it and would still be fantastic on its own without your picture....but my picture was censored. -
Posh shops at Japanese ski-jo
Markie replied to BagOfCrisps's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Yes, definitely some up-market shops at Karuizawa. I even remember there was one selling very nice fur coats. The prices there were quite good though. Lots of high quality stuff there at prices which were relatively cheaper than what you would normally pay. Not crazy discounts but reasonably good ones. I definitely remember Karuizawa more for its shopping and eating than for its slopes. -
Good movies you've seen recently

This is not a film, more like a comedy series, but I got a hold of the 2nd season of Little Britain and had a good laugh. That's some really sick stuff. I am not shopping around for the 1st season and other subsequent seasons. -
Thanks, CB. But the important question is: where do I stand, AK in his pink outfit より?

Now that the season is over for me as far as snow is concerned, it is time to focus on some other nice things in life that can brighten up the day. Check this out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWu5ggvRDSw

Hakuba on the 14th, 15th
Markie replied to Oyuki kigan's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Right now, I'm already booked on a flight to Hokkaido over Christmas. That might sound crazy, jitsuha, a few friends asked to join my trip last week and when I asked the travel agent to put their names down, the answer was: sorry, the flight is already fully booked! Hookaido is a really popular destination for HK people nowadays, and the ticket is twice the price of what it would cost to Tokyo! Anyway, we should really work out something for hooking up on the slopes next season. Also, I just sold off my last "block" of Aussie dollars today (A$10000) as it hit new highs. That should e -
Hakuba on the 14th, 15th
Markie replied to Oyuki kigan's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Hope you guys make it out there this weekend and have a good time. It's been a week since I got back from Hakuba. I was a bit swamped with work when I got back, but now I'm more or less back on track. I think this trip saw the worst Easter snow conditions for many many years. Sun Alpina and Iwatake were closed as expected. The base areas of Tsugaike, Goryu, 47 and Happo were badly hit by previous rain and the snow bases were left in tatters. In Tsugaike, you could not even ski to the mid-gondola station. 47 and Goryu faired much better and you could ski right down to the bottom there. I -

Tsondaboy, you have some very good Greek wisdom! You are right, I completely forgot to mention that the price I quoted was "per person". Sorry! So if you are a group of four, then the price will be 44000 yen. But for a normal taxi from Nagano to Hakuba, the price is the same for 1-4 people, so it is not the same to compare a normal taxi with the Chuo airport taxi service.
-
That's quite steep considering Chuo Taxi is charging me 11000 yen for a taxi from Narita to Hakuba.

Places to stay in Nagano??

Gamera, what g-g means is that Chuo Taxi charge per person when you book the taxi service from Narita to Hakuba. Not for normal local taxis, for that, just pay what is on the meter. -

It used to be, but I got so drunk one time I forgot to collect it at the door when I left and lost it. It took me ages to get a replacement and then getting it attached was so ITAI! -

Family Skiing in Japan
Markie replied to lizg13865's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I think that if you're with kids, the best place to go to is Club Med in Sahoro Hokkaido. They will they the kids off your hands after breakfast every day and set them up with ski lessons. You can then do ski lessons yourself or go skiing on your own. They will give you back your kids at tea-time in the afternoon. Apart from skiing, they also arrange playgroups for kids including games and having them practice for a performance as part of the after-dinner evening show each night. All-in-all, neither the kids nor the adults will be bored and the adults get a good part of the day to themselves. -

Thanks schinken, your link works, I got a reply from them. Still not much enthusiasm for the BBQ it seems, not like last year when we had a really good turnout. -

Thanks schinken and TJ OZ, I've sent Chuo an email requesting a booking. Hope to hear from them soon. What's the weekend of Mar 31 and Apr 1, looking like now? Any chance of rounding up a posse for a BBQ or something at Hakuba? -

I'm trying to book this Chuo Taxi service to take us from Narita to Hakuba. I tried the link which fjef gave and emailed that place twice last week but got no reply. Fattwins gave me this tel. no. 026-282-0232. I tried that (after dialing 81) but couldn't get connected. Any help on how to contact this company?
