There are some parts at Kamui where being on a snowboard might suck as you guys cant traverse like we can, so some of the better runs you might have to unstrap and bootpack it out which would suck, especially if you are breaking trail that way. We had a snowboard mate with us and 3 skiers, so we could set a runway and then he could just haul ass behind and ride out pretty easy. Sucks to be a snowboarder

Stayed at Snowbeds like 7-8 years ago twice and didnt mind it. It is right on the bus line so getting to resorts is a pinch, walking distance of onsens, restaurants, and bars. I think at around 10pm it was volume down on the telly/stereo so the only noise really were all the drunks coming in late at night stammering around. Dont know if I had a family that Id stay there though. Just my 2 yen.

Looking at the location of tomamu the evil demon voice in my head said, "hell, if im that close to sapporo i might as well go to niseko!" I'll be honest, the idea of just cruising up and down the walls outside the gates made me love niseko, bu

Ippy, patrol there is chilling out at Furano, so we will be making a trip back again I think. Kamui has great snow, and when they call it heavy it felt like how it was around Niseko/Rusutsu area. Small resort, only like 900 vert I think or maybe a bit less. We had two days there and it was off the hook, by far the best snow Ive ever had - better than other places in Hokkaido and Shiga Kogen, which until Kamui had been the best. Everything there is skiable so patrol will never say one thing. Lots of pillows. Trees are a bit tight - nothing like Niseko/Rusutsu, but not a problem at all.

I read that post - you and Thursday would get off on it - maybe if you actually come to Japan again you can do a TR. It would be more entertaining than your usual pictures bags of crisps on the snow -
You know what the old saying is, if you dont hike Mt. Fuji you're a fool, if you hike it more than once you're a fool Mt. Fuji seems like the most boring hike (Ive never been any higher than 5), but just dont see the appeal in actually hiking it; but the views from the top do look spectacular but prolly arent any different than the other famous peaks like Kitadake, Hotakadake, Yarigatake etc...

If I was betting on skiing at that point in the season I would head to Hokkaido for sure. Look at the stats that are archived. Typically Hokkaido has a "better" base at that point whereas Honshu doesnt usually have a proper base until a bit later. As others have said, if you can wait till later then do so. -

I guess there is nobody else excited about skiing on this forum. Not surprised when most of the pictures are of resorts and naked men. I was just excited to have had a dream skiing and thought Id share that which brought out all your homosexual fantasies. I should know better -

I dont think this is totally a Japan thing but over the weekend I went for a mtn bike ride and on the way back in I stopped at this little pavilion where lots of runners/cyclists/hikers stop in at and eat, use the restroom, have a break etc. A group of cyclists, about 7 people, pulled up shortly after I did. I went over and refilled my water bottle, and when I came back all seven blokes were puffing away on cigs like they were going out of style. A few young blokes, not of the group that was smoking, started chatting to me so we hung out for a few mins talking. Anyways, what I thought was so o -
