  1. Call me old-fashioned, but I think vodka and a week of casual sex is hard to beat...
  2. I made the plunge, now sitting next to my new G5 dual 2, in front of my new cinema display (just the 20 though), eyeing up the 3D recommendations, thanks guys... most of them seem to have unrestricted 30 day demos so time to get busy. If only the boring office job would just... disappear
  3. Yes, us too, and we're expecting a rather important mail today... As we're moving, estate agents etc. get the mobile address... I guess that's what you get for a free service!
  4. Sunrise, was in sofmap today and nearly dropped a wad (G5 2.0 Dual)... deciding between saving a few pennies on a secondhand one or not held me back, however. Not really bothered by the news, i'll stick with mac 'cause it's easy, and what I know. As for software, creative suite and Archicad, or, hopefully, something similar but cheaper. Need a 3D design package, but not the kind where you have to do all the work yerself! I haven't really looked around or sampled any goods yet (other than bryce and strata). Once i'm unemployed, I should have plenty of sampling time (while sampling the local fru
  5. For a good intro. I think you'd be hard pushed beat the Dave Brubeck Quartet (time out). He hooked me onto Jazz, and even years later I still find him hard to beat as the ultimate background for early evening vegging on balconies... but then I'm too lazy regarding music generally, let alone Jazz... I really must try to move on.
  6. Indosnm, how are you finding the virtual PC. Have you tried to run any design software from it? How stable have you found it to be?
  7. Mr Guests, I think so. It's put me in a quandry though. I need a new mac, and also need to buy some serious software... it's a capital investment I can't afford/don't want to slip into redundancy after a year or so... I may just go over to the 'other' side. Too right about the powerbooks, I believe the lack of a G5 powerbook has been a serious glitch in Apples product lineup, another point that nearly drove/may drive me to windows.
  8. Yes, and pretty cool too. Soon one may not have to choose between Mac and windows, software should be cross-functional... unfortunately, I want to buy a new Mac tomorrow, can't wait til summer 2006...
  9. Love the mixed onsens generally, they have added greatly to mountain trips by allowing what would normally be a relaxing thirty minutes alone (or being harassed as stated above), turn into a few hours and a few beers with my partner, family or friends. Sometimes guys just can't seem to get with the program though, and the experience is occasionally ruined by immature [censored] who just can't seem to get over the idea that they're surrounded by naked women (fancy that). Which reminds me of my first konyoku experience. had been to the onsen at the grand hotel near Niseko a few times
  10. National consternation also ensued when a Japanese midfielder informed the nation of the impending threat posed by NK...
  11. Repeat the mantra... Rondon is not England Rondon is not England Rondon is not England Rondon is not England Rondon is not England
  12. As for your positive comments, I'm sure all the Brits are grateful, but a handful of platitudes hardly gives one a free pass for relentless bashings...
  13. It's one of the things I go home for. Nowhere in the world I've visited to date has bread (that I've tried, of course, I'd hate to make a wholly unqualified statement here) that beats our local cobber (just my opinion, of course, along with a good few foreign visiters) although some come damn close... your description of English bread is completely alien to me... You might just have grasped from Ocean's reaction that we have a certain amount of pride (although not 'mother's pride', that bread is untouchable) in our bread, certainly down in the west country.
  14. By crickey us English are a tolerant lot. There's a fundamental difference for you, Mr Guests, between the Aussies and the English. What kind of reaction do you think one would get if a Brit went after anything Australian with the tenacity you have been exhibiting, let alone going after symbols of national pride? Your countries shit No, it's not Yes, it is, and everybody agrees Ok, OK, it's shit But do you understand just HOW shit? Give it a rest... I'll try to be a little more tolerant in Australia (it probably won't kill me...)
  15. I don't like my job, but only have it for a few more weeks... then i'll be unemployed The next stage is going to be tough, maybe, but I'm going to keep reminding myself that life can and should be fun... should be a good bit of tilling the land, MY land, in their somewhere too.
  16. Quote: Originally posted by Dims: We are all fit, trim and fantastic lovers. Won't hear otherwise. Anyone who isn't is rounded up and sent straight to England where they belong. Along with all the ugly ones and those that are crap at sport. So THAT'S how I got my Aussie visa so damn quickly...
  17. More like the beginning of 'no tie summer' as Koizumi urges Hawaiin shirts to stem global warming... and an office temperature of 28!
  18. I voted 'do nothing' due to lack of information. If I thought my friend was serious, and any attack would involve injury or death, I'd try to stop it. Not because I condone U.S. bases abroad, but because I abhor the use of violence, and prefer to stand by the 'rule of law' premise, despite it's rampant abuse internationally by the powerful. In an ideal world, I might report someone just based on a strong suspicion (ie in the context here), but given the irrational, illegal behaviour exibited by the ruling elites at present,a greater evil against the rule of law would likely be perpetrated
  19. In the same vein as the food statement, I'd have to say it bears similarity to the Aussie wine phenomenon. The Brits probably are now knocking up some fantastic food, and there is a very strong sub-culture behind it. In Australia too, the winemakers are producing probably the best wine in the world, certainly uncontestable dollar for dollar. Does the fact that the average (note the word average) Australian thinks a five dollar bottle of hardy's is top stuff, and uses it as a platform to launch into a tirade against french wine detract from the general quality of good Aussie wine?
  20. Conkers are a (slang?) name for the seeds from the horse chestnut tree. Not to be confused with the chestnuts, they do indeed look similar, but, unlike chestnuts they are usually a little smaller and near perfectly round. I hope that clears it up for you.
  21. Last year, Osaka weather was pretty damn nice. More clear blue sky days than I ever remember having around here, the humidity never really picked up, and the rainy season failed to materialize. The only rain we had was from typhoons (we certainly had a few) but they often only served to clear the air. This year's shaping up the same way, the last couple of months have been rather nice. The architectural improvements and the growth of outdoor dining have certainly added to the livability of Osaka. I always used to dread the summers, but they do seem to be getting a little better, around h
  22. I'm pretty sure there is, but still searching for a reliable source. There's a company called Tasman energy, that provides enough info for making your own, but I'll have to get my own place first, I have a hunch that cracking oil on premises might annul one's lease agreement. Looking forward to meeting with these guys, and finding some land for wind and hydro (and maybe even beg for a job). Australia has some pretty good grants for alternative energy, so setting up might not be too expensive.
  23. It's rare, but not unheard of to have twisters in the south-east... Looking forward to a little guilt relief in Tassie, changing air miles for sails, and oil for biofuel.
  24. Going through the same dilema myself, Cap'n. Was trying to get it off the road before next tuesday, but it probably won't make any difference. I&m just going to pay, then get the refund.
