"You fishing"???? (What does that mean?) I am not putting down cc-ers at all, just wondering what the appeal is as I can't see it myself. Alpine is fast, exciting, exhilirating (typo?) and lots of other descriptive words. They don't seem to apply to cc - tell me if I am wrong please.

....in favor or SKIERS. According to someone who works at Iwappara. My Japanese friend has a mate who has a condo at iwappara and goes every weekend. He was talking to someone over there who works on the ski hill and says that this year there seems to be a reversal in the trend, albeit small, with the number of skiers increasing. What d'ya know? Seems the other way round to me at other places I have been to (haven't been to Iwappara ever...), but will be interesting to see how this turns out. The return of a ski boom???

Got on the skis yesterday and went out to this place for the first time. Snow wasn't much cop, but the place was pretty decent. Full of skiers (:eek . Long runs. Not too busy. Not much else to say really. There you go. Out.

Help me out here. I can't understand what the appeal is with crosscountry. Seems like too much of an effort for not enough speed. Any cc's out there who care to let us know what makes it cool?

Yeah badmigraine, your account does seem to be an exception to the norm. Japan may be getting "worse", but still has a long way to go before it catches up with most other countries.

I have been checking out webcam images and photos daily for the last few weeks now and am almost surprised every day at how empty the slopes look. On a weekday it's as if there are just a handful of riders out there. Case in point - I just looked at the Happo-one one and there were all of about 5 people in the whole shot!!! Unbelievable. The question is, how are the resorts going to survice. If even big famous places like Happo are hurting, how must the other small places be doing? Must be pretty "kibishii" for them.......

Went up to Kandatsu Kogen yesterday with a group of Japanese friend. It rained and was pretty miserable. Good points were that there was hardly anyone there and we had a decent group determined to enjoy themselves. But the rain and slushy conditions were not good. Roll on the next dump, as Cal might say.

My "Topic From Hell" resurfaces. Sorry folks! Hey, went to a pre-booked trip to Kandatsu Kogen yesterday, and it wasn't much fun. RAIN, for chrissakes.

So are there often deaths at resorts in Japan every year? Pretty morbid subject, but brings it back home that what we do does have it's dangers.

Hey Ocean11, you may know this - is it true that your faves Puffy released an album in the US and tried to make it there?

Has anyone been to Furano? The snow is supposed to be good there, but there never seems to be that much of the stuff up there....kind of interesting.

Best: A Tuesday morning at Tashiro in Yuzawa last season. About 50cm of snow overnight, amazing conditions, no people. Just perfect. Worst: Karuizawa Prince Hotel in December last season. It was the pits. Slushy horrible stuff. Won't forget that too quickly!

Kandatsu in Yuzawa doesn't seem to get much attention. It's a decent place, especially for boarders. Not huge, but some challenging runs and park toys to play with. Reallllly convenient too (although that's not too important here of course).

GALA and Kandatsu in Yuzawa have good board park facilities and worth checking out. Was up there last week and had a wild time.

Looks like all the snowboarders are out and about today. On the mountains, perhaps?
