It is difficult to stand by and watch the atrocities happening. Of course someone has to do something about it, as usual it falls on the US and UK... I have brothers still in the military, i am hoping they don't put troops on the ground.

hakuba Aokiko Ski Resort
stemik replied to NECK's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I always thought someone like Club Med could have had a go there. Lots of activities on the lake during the summer months, winter on the hill, and even a short bus ride to the larger ski hills. -

Actually not too sure on that Ski. I am not in the loop or anything so everything is hearsay. It seems the owners are reluctant to sell, the land is owned by local residents who I think have just given up on it. There was one foreign owned enterprise that wanted to buy it but so far have been unsuccessful. -

There are interested parties in wanting to buy Aokiko but most people are very skeptical that anyone could make a go at it. Aokiko during the week used to get a lot of beginner skiers school trips. To the north is Sanosaka, a niche resort that has one of the best mogul courses in the valley, therefore attracting very good mogul skiers. Sometimes you might find the Japanese team training there. To the south is Kashimayari. I haven't been for a few years but I heard it is doing okay. The owners are the same company that bought the Tokyu group out that ran lifts at Happp, Iwatake and Tsugaike -

Guess Where This Is
stemik replied to hellyer's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Two Aussie snowboarders on a trip to Japan arrived in Hakuba, and wanted to go boarding for a day. They noted the strange spelling of Tsugaike and tried to figure out, how to pronounce it Ts-u-ga-i-ke; T-sug-ik-e; Tsug-a-ike. They grew more perplexed..and decided to find out the correct pronuciation. Since they were hungry, they went into a place to get something to eat. At the counter, one of the snowboarders said to the waitress: "G`day. My friend and I can't seem to be able to figure out how to pronounce this place. Will you tell me where we are and say it very slowly so that we can -

I am looking forward to WWZ - i think it comes to Japan in August. I watched Hot Tub Time Machine last night. 94mins of my life I will not get back. -
Recently I have been watching the morning/mid-day drama on NHK. It's called Ama-chan and its a very enjoyable 15mins. But of course its not worth the license fee!

We did this with our Japanese cooker to reach the same height as our units. Big blocks of wood under every leg, covered with a fascia board at the front
