  1. agreed...the instant replay could really come in handy...maybe the "football" world could learn something from our american football... in american football coaches are allowed to challenge a ref. call...if a challenge is made they review the call on video...if the call stands, the challenging team loses a time-out...guess that part would have to change...but the idea is there... anyway, bad referees are also part of the game...gotta take it as they call it...and stop whining... danz
  2. with those silly verses on the tire covers of 4x4 here... "whether it is for fashion or personal. Sport is for fun. That is Important." or "The sound of the tire clinging to the pavement reminds us how beautiful nature is..." surely i am misquoting some of the beautiful tire-cover poetry...i should write them down...this is a purely japanese phenomenom, right?? danz
  3. but what exactly do you talk about in this thread then... danz

  5. hey cliff... don't know much about snowboarding...but for skiing i can help you out... bindings are kind of like your life-line...it is the device that either keeps you on your skiis, or bails you out when things get hairy...bad bindings are likely to release when you don't want too, or keep you locked in when you should be out...these can make for very dangerous situations... as for performance issues, they also can make a difference...newer generation bindings are really fancy these days with extra pivots and such to interfere less with the flex of the ski...some of them are u

  8. miteyak... i think you may have confused poor sachiko even more... sachiko...for a straight answer, i think skiing actaully started in norway as a means of travel... danz

  11. if I may chime in... I went to roppongi to watch US v. Poland...and I felt like all the English there were searching for US fans to give us sh%t...no lovin' at all...it seemed like they were really getting off by watching poland beat the us...but that is just my perspective (and all the other us fans i met...) just so you know... danz
  12. zanen... personally, despite peoples complaints about media coverage, I would have loved to see japan advance... tokyo last friday was just unbelievable...it would be nice to see more of that... danz
  13. we are all here with ya nagoid... the first step is admitting you have a problem...I'll start off... My name is danz, and I am addicted to skiing... really don't know what to do with myself these days...world cup has helped a bit... danz

  18. just had a HUGE tremmor over here in tukuba...short lived, but nice dramatic BOOM followed by serious building shake... anyone else feel anything?? danz
  19. I knew this really hard-core skier once... he dislocated his shoulder, but would still hit the mtn. everyday...you ask him "doesn't it hurt", and he would reply with a huge grin "oh yah..." the guy fractured his wrist, and just duct-taped it shut and kept skiing... the stories go on and on...but he is definetly hard core... danz
  20. hey teleskier... where abouts are you from... I tried doing tucks 3 yrs in a row only to be foiled by that crazy mt. washington weather... kind of miss that east coast skiing in a twisted way... danz
  21. ah.... sorry there pal... i should be more careful with my choice of words...what i meant by trail was actually anywhere on the mtn (don't care if its marked or not) but I do have to disagree on the more to stand on part... I don't know much at all about snowboarding, so if I'm wrong, please correct me (which i'm sure you will do in your witty fashion, which by the way cracks me up)... when you traverse across a steep pitch, at least with skiis, you are on your edges...i imagine the same is true with a board, or else you slip down...edges are longer on skiis, and you have 2
  22. ocean11... traversing across anything over 40 degrees is no easy task...I don't care if you are a boarder or skier, you need to have complete edge control, good balance, and nerves of steel... also, how do you manage to take your board off on said slope...your description does not sound like a trail with sustained pitch...but just a short little drop into something more realistic...I wouldn't even think about leaving my skiis on such a steep course...and if I had to, I would rather want to be in ski boots than snowboard boots for sure... danz
