  1. Can't say I've noticed anyone talking about the redesign either, only the petitions against knocking the old one down and building something new, the proposed one in particular. They're currently knocking down another Tange building, the old Akasaka Prince which they are taking down with a new floor by floor technique. It was the ripply hotel by the spaghetti junction at Akasaka Mitsuke. We stayed there once on a deal and I liked it. The room and bed were big and it had a nice separate bath and toilet. It didn't seem remotely dated to me, and much better than hotels that now get loads of g
  2. I don't think you can ignore the cash in football because there is next to no chance that a Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Aston Villa, Norwich (third when Fergie first won the Prem, with Villa second) will compete for the title any more. If you arrange the Premiership teams using their wage bill, you get very high correlation with the final table. The biggest exceptions are at the bottom where you can have a relatively big spender like QPR still eff up. ManYoo were supposed to get Herrera for Moyes last summer, so it feels a bit weird them getting the same player now. It sounds like Moyes al
  3. That one was originally just Wenger playing a Flying V which has kind of disappeared behind Chesney on the tambourine as the others have been added. Anyway it was so completely random that is definitely the work of genius!
  4. Is that Suarez birthday cake gif one of Ollie's before he started tagging them? His videos are classic. This one is my favourite. This incident could be ripe for one of them "You the Referee" cartoon questions. A player has huge fresh bite mark but you only saw the heads coming close and not the actual bite. How do you proceed? The answer will probably be a drop ball!
  5. Chomp! chomp! I'd love to see Brenda's face if he gets banned from club football as well! I hope he's got an empty envelope.
  6. Assuming the window is vertical, the sunlight will come off it with the same incident angle like a pool ball off a cushion. If the sun is high, the incident angle will be steep and so will the angle of the reflected light. Even if its the lower angle setting sun that is the problem, the angle of the setting sun changes much faster than midday sun, so the time reflected light hits something and causes a hassle your neighbour problem will be less. If this all sounds weird, watch a time lapse video, preferably from summer when the sun moves the most. If the houses are on a hill and close toge
  7. Okay, so by reflection you meant, err, reflection! Since the sun moves in the sky, whatever the reflection is hitting can't be hitting it in the same spot for very long each day, and even then only for a month or two a year. I recommend something as cheap as possible and temporary and only used at "neighbour is urusai" time of the year. Maybe a cheap planter hung below your window. The sun is at its highest and sweeps from north east to north west in June, so the window must be considerably higher than the plastic thingy. Is that right?
  8. If its to block direct sunlight and the heat of the sun it carries, google 赤外線カット and フィルム
  9. With skis and snowboards it's pretty easy to get a deal on last year's model. With bikes, you can struggle just to get this year's model at the normal price!
  10. The black bonnet on the white car is the classic use of this in Japan. Getting back to Costco, but I like their spare ribs . A whole rack, say 1.5kg, for about 1200-1300 yen. About three ribs done in a.n.other teriyaki sauce is usually about 700 yen in an izakaya. They also do big packs of salami and bologna sausage. Some of the cheese is relatively cheap for Japan too. Have they been selling fire pits in the one you go to Chris? Basically a metal stand for burning logs with a tiled surround and a wire mesh cover. I've seen them on the Costco resellers websites, but not in the shop its
  11. Apparently the main dude has offered to resign. I think the offer should be accepted!
  12. Yeah, I've tried to get my kids bikes in early summer this year and last and loads of good ones are sold out by now. By good ones, I mean kids' mountain bikes that do not weigh a ton. Delivery on some now is September. It's something to watch for if you live in a snow zone and want to buy a new bike. Don't leave it till the snow goes before starting your search.
  13. The Musashi in the south part of Nagano City near the new big Uniqlo has a big shiryou-kan where they sell loads of materials and have aisles full of very specialized electrical and plumbing stuff. I don't know what its all for, but its well interesting. I put some shelves up the other day, and at Maebashi Cainz, I would have had seven or eight choices for the boards, not the one or two at Omachi Cainz. For the food at the Costco cafe, they do a hot baked thing with shredded beef and cheese baked in pizza dough called a Bulgogi Bake that is well yummy in a pie/kebab type way. 150 yen for a
  14. If you're going to have a go yourself, that Cainz Home in Maebashi opposite Costco is wicked. You could pretty much build and equip an entire (very nice) house from what they sell. It completely pisses on Nagano home centers, most of which are a joke. They're small and don't carry much stuff. Branches of the same Cainz Home chain in Nagano are pathetic by comparison. Half of the one in Omachi got turned into a supermarket even. The best one around here is Musashi (sp?) which is a Niigata chain. As for tiling, Japanese folks all seem to use dedicated plastic spacers that make laying the
  15. Not a bad prediction! Rooney should maybe have another goal to his name but he's not been doing too badly. He's getting some flak, but mainly from the mongs that turn up every four years. "He's rubbish just like in the 2011 CL final" etc. Aye, the game in which he scored and was just about the only ManYoo player to turn up.
  16. England showing the value of the big hoof up the middle for the second World Cup running! Top rated comments on the Daily Mail, possibly in association with UKIP and the BNP, are "Crap as usual" "I wish the players would sing the Anthem with more passion" "World Cup football !!!! Boring .. These men are millionaires with no country pride .. Yawwwwwwn"
  17. Kaede's look lovely in a summer breeze with the little leaves rippling and catching the light in different directions, but yeah, the kanji was appropriated from another tree.
  18. kaeru no te = kaede Rather than a literal translation, it's where the name comes from. Rivet rivet!
  19. I got given a couple of Asahi Extra last week, a strong and kind of complex lager heading into ale territory. I'm not a fan of Asahi, but it was pretty good!
  20. They need to stick it in the mixer!
  21. Mclaren have said they'll only make hybrids from now on, so that's one in the eye for UK Top Gear.
  22. A double parking space is at least 8 tsubo, so at that rate its four million yen just to park the cars! Niigata is still inaka and most families will have two cars. Two sets of snow tyres will take up an extra half a tsubo somewhere
