  1. Let's give one of the losing players an individual gong before the winners get to lift the trophy. Oh, it's taken it past the hour and tv stations worldwide have switched back to regular programming. Anotherfifafukuppy. Great tournament on the pitch anyway, and deserved winners. Some erratic shooting in the final but not from Gotze. Like Iniesta the last time, a great goal from a likable player.
  2. Since we don't have them in Japan, I don't know about streaming services like Spotify and their sound quality, but I suspect it's going to be crippled for DRM reasons. To stop people recording it and getting a perfect copy that the music industry still wants people to pay for. It won't be for "convenience" and it certainly won't be consumer driven. The video and audio file formats supported by Ipods weren't chosen by consumers. When I was young, everyone got into the Smiths because John Peel and Janice Long played them in mono on AM radio, which is way worse than mp3s. Radio 1 only started
  3. I reckon all the community stuff folk get sucked into is one of the main reasons for 少子化 (fewer children, NOT a "falling birthrate" because that's actually going up slightly) and 過疎化 (depopulation of the countryside). Its much easier to avoid communal activities and the time and energy they consume if you are single or at least have no kids and live in an apartment in the city. Having kids invariably means lots of contact with other parents and that's where you get sucked in, if you're not in already through family ties where you grew up. A lot of it is two wrongs making a right. We all ha
  4. Japan is hot and wet and bare ground soon reverts to jungle. We chopped down a load of conifers out the back about five years ago. It was dense unthinned forest, so it was very dark and had no understory. I've been hacking through it this year and the tallest trees on it are already twenty feet high. That's just in five years with snow on it four-five months a year when everything will be dormant. During rainy season, I either have to weed whack in the rain or in soaking wet conditions after rain or let weeds take over. It's another reason I hate the rainy season. Weed barriers can sav
  5. Effectively they've got him for Sanchez and Fabregas. Both of whom have joined clubs that finished below Liverpool.
  6. Alexis Sanchez to Arse confirmed. It sounds like he must have chosen them over Liverpool, so hard lines to Brenda there.
  7. At least two of them looked saveable. Esp. Maxi's at the end. Apparently two of the Dutchies refused the first pen, so Vlaar the Villian took it. And missed. A bit like when Anelka wouldn't take one and John Terry ended up on his bum.
  8. I used to enjoy the provisions but now its just one or two When coming back to Japan, we're normally straight into the car, so it's a non starter now. My favourite used to be the US airlines that carry a Bloody Mary mix called Mr. Ts. It's actually pretty good! Much better than the generic lagers the airlines carry.
  9. RVP-Robben-Schneider are a great front three, and that always puts you in with a shout. They made the final last time. This time though, those three players didn't see enough of the ball. Robben got it but not in good positions. RVP was mainly an onlooker. I think the Spain result and Van Gaal's reputation might have got expectations a bit too high. Had Mexico not tried to shut up shop at 1-0, Holland would probably have gone out at the round of 16.
  10. I downloaded the game and I don't think I've ever hit the alt+right arrow as much in VLC. It's the shortcut that advances the video by 10 seconds. It looks like it saved me about a hour and a half of tedium. The Dutch go out after failing to score for 240 minutes. At least the Argies had a bit of a go. Their final ball is very poor though. There were a few times when they had someone head up advancing centrally about 25 yards out and every time the guy ran into a tackle or hit a woeful pass. They'll not beat the Germans doing that.
  11. Welbeck got stuck on the left after they got RVP and the output of Nani, Valencia and Young fell away. He's had a lot of flak since. I don't think he's a world beater, but offers something else to RVP and Rooney. To develop more as a striker, he probably needs a move though. Nani's two last seasons have been a disaster, like Earth Song and Heal the World. It was all Thriller before that. He needs to get back with Quincy and find his mojo. Shamone!
  12. The parody people will have their work cut out to do worse than Yoko! "Yopparatta obasan mitai" seems to be the verdict I've heard.
  13. Me and the missus usually prebook different meals, sometimes ones from religions we don't belong to. The Hindu one (asian vegetarian) can be quite good. They always hand them out before the normal meals off the trolley. There's nothing stopping you getting a halal meal and washing it down with some beers!
  14. I don't think Brazil are quite up to 1970 Standard That's even with their three best players, Neymar, Thiago Silva, and the key man Refereeinho.
  15. If they do, I'm going 180 degrees on my daughter getting a hamster. The only condition is that she names it "Special Patrol Group".
  16. We've just applied for our Shinzo money. You get 10,000 a kid to make up for the tax increase, so 30,000 for us. I shall be raising a glass to the big man. Arigatou!
  17. Erikson is a good player but Soldado had a really bad year, missing sitters. Their record signing, Lamela, was nowhere to be seen. A real wtf situation. There were also noises about the players coming in not being who AVB wanted. I think Spurs use a DOF system. Suarez himself was a poor finisher under Dalglish, so maybe the new Spurs players just need time. Chelsea and Citeh have done loads of shopping in recent years, but not always to good effect. The England team on paper will be worth loads more than other teams that got more than one point at the WC. You have to play as a team.
  18. If you have lots of money left over to save for early retirement, why not work less now?
  19. I thought he'd want different players because he's tactically a very different manager to Moyes.
  20. I don't know much about Van Gaal but he gets heralded for being his own man and being very tactically aware, in a much more attacking way than Moyes. I thought he would want different players. fwiw, I am looking forward to what he's going to do. ManYoo have a very unbalanced squad and their team and formation certainly don't pick themselves. Just getting RVP, Rooney and Mata into something that puts their individual talents to good use will take some doing. Then there's Januzaj, Kagawa, the three wingers, Welbeck etc. etc. That said, if Suarez is off and Yaya Toure is next, ManYoo coul
  21. Pissing it down all day here. I hate the rainy season, it's easily the worst time of year.
  22. Yeah the one in the photo looks like a weed whacker. Round here, most folks get roped into doing communal weed whacking several times a year. I have to do it for both my neighbourhood and the school. There's actually another lot we have because we grow rice, but someone else on our team has been doing it this year. Most communal weed whacking has a 5am start. Its the price of living in inaka.
  23. I've got something that looks like that. Except its got a spinning blade on the end and I have to get up at 4:30am to use it at various communal gatherings. I trust all your prudent types have made provisions in your retirement fund to cover a metal detector. A lightweight one as well, in case your joints are a bit iffy.
  24. They're both players Moyes wanted! One year on from Fergie and most of his team have gone. Unless Rooney plays, Citeh's starting team might have more medals between them.
