  1. The tax debate is a hot topic. The resident tax is a municipal tax I believe. This tax helps to provide the different levels of service the towns can and do offer. By not paying the tax you or anyone then gets these services for free. Basically most ski towns in Japan are in bad condition financially. Imagine a Japanese town with 50% of its house owners being non residents. This situation could be quiet harmful to the already sensitive budget books!
  2. Santa Cruz heckler is my ride. I will not buy in Japan too expensive! Most parts are marked up 2 to 3 times more than the standard US price. Jenson will ship a bike to Japan for just over 100 bucks. The warranties are great and if you order etc. etc. with your bike, you will find that you saved over 1000 dollars compared to the Japanese cost.
  3. Took a personal day today to ski Cortina, waist deep and spent. Off to the onsen then catching the bus home!
  4. This season many people know about the trees and they are open. By 11am you will find Cortina tracked out.
  5. Sorry a bit more clear question coming. Can we share stories from those sites, pictures or maybe video? Does that break the link policy I guess is what Im asking.
  6. Question can we share the stuff on their site here as well?
  7. Tracked out by 11 maybe. If they think the avalanche danger is high they wont open anything.
  8. If an avalanche does happen at a resort, the army, police, patrol, local SAR become involved. That is a heap of money. Japan is never going to take a European approach to off piste. Japan is likely heading towards the more American style of gate access. Yes Cortina has heaps of legal trees open again. I have also seen a chair lift stopped at a resort to catch people. Even seen the chair backed up.
  9. I heard? Are we back in high school? The rules at the resorts are quite clear and they are there for you to read, when you by a ticket. Opening terrain also costs money. I don't think many resorts in Japan have an excess of money. The Cortina trees though are pretty freaking sic and open.
  10. Try ducking a rope in Colorado and see what happens. Try ducking a rope at Fernie or Whistler and see you in Jail. We all know many of the spots the resorts have roped off could be opened. It isn't our house and if we break the rules we know the risks. A resort has every right to enforce their rules whatever they are.
  11. Most ski resorts in Japan are on private land. You can be charged with trespassing easy enough. Why bring up the point ticket defense on a public forum?
  12. Has been a sick Nagano start but work starts again on Thurday. Powder everyday, unreal conditions. Id guess 4 to 5 meters in 2 and a half weeks. I really want to just quit my job but that just isn7t going to happen.
  13. How about down the road at Norikura? Pension Hobbi for great food from an old Tokyu head chef, fresh jersey milk in the mornings. A 5 minute lazy drive to Tsugaike or naughtys. Cortina and Norikura are ski in and ski out. You will have to search the net for this place though but it is worth the roughly 6000 yen.
