  1. Still look like Saturday night is the go for the first storm. The weather looks to be cooling down the following friday as well. I wouldnt expect much but if the snow is packable you should see an opening sometime next week.
  2. Jimmer made my point better than I did. but LOL. I didn't say start on ice. I said don't shy away from it and learn how to ski it. No ski instructor on the world gets past a (about level 2 PISA) without some coaching tickets. That means high level ski instructors have learned how to turn on hard packed or ice.
  3. Sam Bode Miller from New Hampshire home to wicked amounts of ice. Jeremy Jones New England home to wicked amounts of ice. I wouldnt go out looking for ice but dont avoid it and learn to ride it. If you can make turns on ice you can ride anywhere.
  4. Naeba Goryu Happo All do babysitting by the resort. 9 month old is pushing the age though.
  5. Nice sunny day. Hard conditions with grip. Powder will push or pull your skis or board around so stay clear of it. Dont fear ice. Ice will show you how to hold an edge. Some of the best riders in the world come from east coast ice. Get the right skis or board to learn on. Dont go too long in length keep it nice and short.
  6. You would think people would be happy with snow early snow. Kamikouchi looks really nice with the colors and the snow.
  7. Hotaka area is showing snow down to 1600 meters on Jonen. The kita alps must have sucked in a storm because yesterday it was 16 degrees at 450 meters in Hotaka, but there is snow in those mountains. http://livecam.vill.hakuba.nagano.jp/livecam/?id=2&Y=2010&M=11&D=2&H=7&I=45 Tateyama The Alpen route live http://www.alpen-route.com/livecam/ Karasawa live link you can actually see people walking around http://www.gosenjaku.co.jp/kamikochi/livecamera.html
  8. aerobics seriously it sounds gay but it works everything. 30 to 40 mins then cool down with a 20 to 30 min bike. Do that for a month and you will be stronger and much more flexible.
  9. Sorry I meant The local shop in Niseko that is more for Japanese freeriders. These shops should know about a few events. But again Neil Hartman should have lots of info about events in the Hokkaido area. He was one of the Mc's for the x-trail.
  10. The Nissian one was only invites. the pros were also only snowboarders with sean white and travis rice being the main stays. Lots of money if you won, plus an x-trail SUV. I would go to the local J-shop and ask in Niseko asap about any events. There are many park events in the Gifu area.
  11. Nissan pulled the plug. Check Neil Hartmans site for info about stuff like this. He has lots of info on events.
  12. You really cant go wrong with new tires from the major brands. Some tires though are better for black ice and some handle the deep snow better. Your local guys would stock more tires that would suit your area. I have had blizzaks, Toyo and Yokohama tires and all have seemed about the same.
  13. It is not always used tires they get over stock as well and sell cheap. They work with the car auctions to get parts and stock. http://www.consumersearch.com/snow-tires
