Quantas........Grounded!

I don´t know what people are going to get if there are no independent Unions. Independent - meaning not a company (employer) formed Union. Japam used to do this, so the workers stood up and formed their own " Second Union" Even if there is an Union , example, I am talking about Australia. It does not necesary help you. Senior Union members who are employed at that company wants to keep their jobs, too. There might be politics and deals that "low level workers" don´t get told. I once worked at one of the big department store as a casual. That was more than 7 years ago btw. At the end of the -

Buying my first board?
Jynxx replied to Rookie's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Rookie, Glad to hear you found something comfty. I actually bought BOA Van boots for my missus for X´mas. She liked it at first but started complaining she bought 1/2 size too small. We were lucky to find a Van BFB model ( short for best f***ing boot) aptly named. Actually, we both wear them. They are lace ups. I like the lace ups because the laces are easy to replace. You just have to hope the wire won´t break on the mountain with Boa. Keeping the boot tight is not always what everyone wants. WE had a talk about this before and we know Mamabear´s family is a Boa family. BM and I are fu -

Ippy, The part you don´t understand is this. You are just stringing words together and don´t know what you are talking about. That is what my physics professor once told me. haha You can go back to watching Startrek and pretend that you understand physics. -

The length issue - to have my last word on this is ... If you are riding mogules most of the time , going shorter 151- 154 is easier to snake thru. The longer board will change your riding. You will ride edge-to-edge. None of that sliding the tail of the board (buttering) You will apprieciate the longer board when it gets icy. And it does get icy on piste . So the short board for gloomers argument is crap. -

This is absolute bull shit. Ippy has a way of complicating things with more words, He is just assimilating infomation from whats on the web, and accepts the manufacturers guideline. It is not weight alone that affects the board. It is the energy. The correct term is Momentum - to make it sound easier, that is Weight (mass) multiplied by Speed (velocity). If I am 20 % lighter than you, but can go 20% faster than you, I generate the same energy. - that I can transfer to the board. The effectiveness of that transfer is one´s technique, style. I have always argued that the manufactur -

I am going to slam everyone who recommends a 180 65kg guy anything under a 157cm. That´s right, The dude is on snow japan, and he is going to be on powder and he´s going to get hooked on that. Me and missus are 165, 170cm and 55-60kg and we ride a board about 160. Sure you might wanna practice on a short board but for how long? I -2 week really. He would be looking for a new longer board again to go on pow! Hey, if you are going to pick up a binding, make sure the boot fit snug to that binding. Especially on the width. Get one that has a Aluminium base plate. Look for Rome, Ride, Drake -

The board is a different matter - Depends on your vision, what you want to do, see yourself doing in the future. If riding switch is not part of your plan, a directional board which you have an option of setting your binding towards the tail - will be easier for powder. (Still you can do switch on them if you want to) -

Hey, Rookie I have been in a similar situation 4 seasons ago. Lot´s of info out there it´s confusing. Like the others said, the pair of BOOTS is the single most important equipment. If the gear package has the boots you fit well, I´d consider it. My advice is when you try them on, take thin socks. Never thick ones. The thin socks gives you a better fit. Also make sure you have enough toe wiggling space. Everyones feet´s different so you got to try them on. Leave it on for 5-10 min, walk around, go up and down the stairs ... basically move your legs - bend stretch - and feel them out. It´s a -
It´s just for cooking. Alcohol will evaporate. Any white wine will do, but I wouldn´t use the sweet (late picked) variety. Ours is a 4 euro a bottle Italian organic wine that get used for cooking.

rach, it´s the Baguette that you gotta find on the day. As long as you use Swiss Emmental and Gruyer (sorry forgot the spelling) about 50/50 and put white wine, you don´t need anything else. I melt them on the stove. I cut them in small-ish pieces with the wine - just makes it easier to melt - heats up quicker and evenly. And then to the table and put a alcohol burner underneath. Just needs low heat. If I were camping, I´d just use rocks instead of a fondu stand. in essence, it´s yummy melted cheese with yummy crust bead.

Elan makes quality boards. I like them. Their factory makes boards for other brands. This one is similar to Voekl Soulsurfer. The 20mm taper is too much IMHO, (if you like going fast on gloomers, the tail washes out) Actually boards like Burton Malolo, Ride Slackcountry, Abour etc.. all have similar spec boards at a similar (high-ish) price Salomon Burner rules ! -

It suits your style of riding - Cool When I started snowboarding, I wanted to ride switch and all that, but now I never do it. Don´t feel all that comfortable on fakey nowdays.... strange ideosync. is that I ride my longboard (skateboard) fakey The tools I use do set me into a certain form, not always transferable, -

Out of the 4 board we (me and my missus) have, we ride the Salomon Burner and Atomic V-tail most of the time. Most of the time we choose to ride has been on powder, and I chose these boards for powder and steeps. We are 55-60kg and our board are about 160. My opinion is that since we are riding on our back foot in powder and not continuously on the center of our stance, although it does give us float, I am reluctant to say it is a ripper powder board. I think any board under 170 cm (even for our weight) does not deserve to be called a powder board. We think our boards can do with another 10 c -

Ippy's Snowboard Buying Guide 2.0
Jynxx replied to ippy's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Banno. in the end people will recommend you what they want to sell. or what they want to ride. or what they have been riding. Ippy has been riding Capita (only, all of them very similar except for the Charlie) , there you go. This is all catalogue talk, like which Tupperware to buy, or talking to a guy in the local hardware store. They haven´t actually used the gear or did any work with them. At your level, you should know at least what you would like to ride, have a feeling of what might work for you. Some people like a saw that cuts on a pull, some like it cut on a push. Or try something -
