  1. Disgusting... why don't they add a bob or two to their so called discount price.. I bet someone will make a good Irish joke out of it...
  2. The collision involving the German premier happened at a Y junction, where both parties were on high speed. Tree lined so hard to see. Europe has long runs that is not too steep, and when it's not crowded it is easy (and tempting) to go fast. I think there is a recent trend in people are wearing helmets, " Precaution in others running into you"... with people who are experienced and never worn one before.. Wise move. As to the hit and run. Very alarming. Self obsessed people on the rise. Maybe ski schools have to teach "Defensive skiing" like in driving a car....
  3. Yeah, it's pretty bad in Europe.... 10 in Turkey in an incident, 7 in France from 3 separate incidents, 2 in Austria, 2 in Scotland.. all from avalanche recently. RIP
  4. I bothers me when someone goes missing. It's easy to dismiss that alcohol is a potent drug.. and snowy mountain areas are a dangerous place to be.
  5. Jeez, you are keen Ma'bear .. I gave up night skiing years ago... I'm too stuffed and hungry by then!
  6. I was impressed with both Perisher and Threadbo I didn't expect to ski in Australia, and I find runs like Naeba
  7. Agreed.... It's a health hazard.
  8. Sanchous, you are from Sakhalin...very interesting...don't want to get into politics but tell us what it's like there. You are Russian nationality, but Japanese or Ainu descent? Fisherman or military? how long have you lived there?
  9. How's this. You go boarding and you get stranded can't get out. Food is running out so there is s heli drop. People are shoveling snow off the roof or otherwise it will crush the building. State of emergency. Does that sound silly...
  10. I wonder when and who started calling them monsters In Japanese JYU-HYO (like iced tree) Zao's trade mark....
  11. or Chiba... Level 4&5 Avalanche warnings in the European Alps. Serious stuff. stranded villages, evacuations, rising deaths tolls... too much snow is too much, too.
  12. I needed a good laugh ! Cheers for that ...
  13. Here's a bit of Japanese history... In the past there were multiple use tickets. It was a square or round piece of cardboard with numbers on the fringe. Use one, get clipped one. You can use it with your mate. Pay for 10 get 11 or 12. (That's right, they sold single tickets) Can use it for the whole season. No refund for the unused portion. No half day tickets. This does the job. My guess is they stopped doing this because it is labour intensive.. and it can be used for the whole season, people weren't buying day tickets unless you were fast, eager, on weekdays when not crowded. Then c
  14. It really is strange when I see a thread about "Stolen things at Japanese resorts" and you all know it doesn't happen that much and appreciate that fact. Why is it OK to rip off companies when you don't do it to individuals. I do think we all think about morals in some way and here we are not going to agree on it. I rather not see cops hanging around or signs posted "Penalty $100"
  15. TB you have made a financial gain. Over all it might be a negative. But you had the run. Doesn't matter if one person has 2 runs or 20 runs. So for that same matter it's your business to use it for a full day or half day. I agree wholeheartedly there should be half day tickets and 2hrs, 3hrs tickets like Europe. But once bought, you can not redeem it for financial gain. at what ever the price tag. That's hawking. It's not in your rights to sell it. That's why I say give it away! hence it is a moral issue. If you don't agree it is a moral issue, then the Japanese will have to enforce it as su
  16. Good on you mate! If you are going to give away your ticket, give it to a kid... Sorry, but what I received in the past, I will pass on...
  17. I wonder how intoxicated he really was... Did he decide to take a walk because it was such a nice night? In that case, expanding the search parameter 2 km in all direction ... If there were people around that night and did not see any confrontation, the foul play line becomes pretty organized.. He is 190cm. Then the question is motivation. In any case, this will stay in back of our heads for sure. This really sucks big time. Sad
  18. Message understood.... but I't not ashamed to eat cup noodles or homemade obento. Old gear? I have a 198 cm '81 Kazama airflow comp amongst others and old Lang, Hansen, Scott boots ... nothing wrong with that. Old school don't need big side curves on the ski and anything wide over 70 is unnecessary luxury for pow. As for sleeping in cars, me and my girlfriend lived in a top of the line Ford for a few months in Oz and had lots of fun. When you are 5'8" it's pretty comfty.. I don't know, mate.. It's a bit like Kiseru (traditional smoking pipe with the bowl and tip made of metal and bambo
  19. I'm with Ryoma on this one.... I know for some saving a penny is so important their life practically revolve around that, there are many books written about how to make money and not so on spending it. First, in Japan there is a culture when you are a young student people support you...ie: if you go to work your sempai or someone older will invite you for lunch. Buying a ticket with your mate and one uses for the morning and the other for afternoon is acceptable when you are a student. Two. It is not commendable to be stingy in Japan. Money is spent like a social lubricant. Three.
  20. Oh, I have to try that Mabear... buttermilk is common but using vinegar ! impressed...
  21. Hey, you are in Japan. Give them to a youngster... I remember being given tickets from Onisan Onesan (big brother, big sister, terms of endearment) when I was young. I thought they were cool, and it is a fond memory about Japanese snow scene... sometimes it's not about money... if you are going to sell it, sell it to another gaijin.
  22. Pancakes on the Rocks... Iike there are many ways to cook rice I like them all... I wanna taste Mantas's I make mine with grated apples... I make mine with wholemeal + plain flour cream, jam, golden syrup, Canadian Maple syrup....ahh I do admit I love American pancakes.. for breakfast with bacon and eggs, hash brown...
