The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing still here. Windy too with the snow being blown about all over the place this morning, so difficult to put a number on it. There has been about 10cm on the tops of cars though and that is what some resorts are adding to their snow depths. There seem to be a few lifts around the area starting late or perhaps even not starting yet this morning - looking at Okushiga Kogen and Kumanoyu at the moment. Less people around on this Monday morning. It's a cold one though, with the wind making it feel even colder - minus double digits in places, brrr. Tomorrow should be calmer and the sun might show up. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing again this morning. Not much to report in terms of cm right now, but with snow forecast for today and tomorrow I am hoping that we can build on what there is so far. For the moment it's actually not that cold, but should be getting colder as the day progresses. More should be open from Saturday with amongst other lifts that should be moving for the first time, the Giant, Terakoya, Higashitateyama and Nishitateyama areas also planning to be open. We will soon be more linked up and getting closer to being fully open. Hoppo Bundaira has jumped from 40cm to 80cm snow depth overnight. Don't get excited, we didn't get 40cm of new snow overnight... I can only imagine a very late update there! Colder this morning across Shiga Kogen and more snowfall to report along with some gusty wind conditions - though lifts that are open don't seem to be affected, perhaps running slower than usual. Fairly poor visibility though as the clouds engulf the mountains. The snow clouds should be with us for the rest of the day, then perhaps clearing up for tomorrow and Tuesday before more snow mid week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A good snowfall since yesterday here in Shiga Kogen. Resorts are adding between 10cm and 30+cm to their snow depths this morning and there was 20cm on the top of the car to be moved off this morning. It is still snowing and there's a moderate wind. Cold too. Need to be wrapped up and ready for the conditions, but sliding wise there's some very good conditions to be found. Variable visibility conditions now. Here in Maruike it's quite bright now but I was just up at Kumanoyu where there was a wind blowing and I couldn't see much of anything. Got to say the forecast wasn't saying we'd get this much and it still doesn't have much snow for today, but clearing and a chance of sun tomorrow. Actually fairly calm conditions over the Christmas week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Mixed conditions over Shiga Kogen this morning. The sun was out a while back but now it is back to snowing and grey clouds. Anyway most resort areas now are (at least part) open and it kind of feels like today is the main start to the season for the region as a whole. Still not 100% but there's more than enough terrain on offer. Still we do need more snow as it's fairly thin on the ground in lots of places. Today should bring snowfall and overnight into Sunday and so let's see what tomorrow morning looks like. A lot of cars on their way up to Shiga Kogen this morning - long weekend with Monday as a holiday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . 10cm or so of fresh snow here in Shiga Kogen since yesterdays report and it is snowing now. Lower down in the valley it has been raining/sleet but up here, of course, snow! It's coming down quite heavily here in Maruike as I write this actually so fingers crossed we'll get another decent layer before tomorrow. As I mentioned yesterday more of Shiga Kogen plans to be open tomorrow morning and it will hopefully start to feel like proper winter season. When I woke up this morning it was just cloudy with no new snow to report, but it started to snow and is coming down moderately heavy at the moment in the Maruike part of Shiga Kogen. At least a few cm since then on the tops of cars. There's a bit of a wind as well at the moment - calmer earlier - but lift operations don't seem to be affected right now. A fine day of clearer weather is forecast for tomorrow, followed by snow as we approach the weekend. Some small areas of blue sky showing through in areas at the moment - could the clouds be clearing up? Forecast seems to say it might well happen and there should be some sun on view over the next few days, including Christmas Day. Back to snow by the end of the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A thin layer of snow this morning and variable conditions. It's snowing and rather cloudy over at Ichinose, or it was 15 minutes ago, but now back here in Maruike the sun is actually trying to make an appearance. Clearer skies are actually forecast for later today, before snow and possibly heavy snowfall coming up tomorrow. Hopefully it won't get too windy. Lots of people around today as you would expect but from my quick look around in the last half hour it all looks manageable without too much of a bottleneck. One of the advantages of their being so many lifts and runs here. Of course it will be getting busier as the morning continues. Have a good New Years Eve and see you in 2014. What's more, get this, Starbucks has opened at the top of Yokoteyama. Yes, that Starbucks. Coffee. I kid you not. The highest Starbucks in Japan, as you might expect! So you can now have a Starbucks at the top of Shiga Kogen. How about that. I haven't been yet myself but of course the views from up there are fantastic so hopefully they'll have some prime seat locations looking out. Probably won't see much out of the windows today though with the snow coming down at the moment. Not the best of visibility around the areas this morning. But we could well do with the snow as it's still fairly thin on the ground really and so... bring it on, I say. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's still snowing. Good to see some resort areas add 10-20cm to their official snow depth numbers as well this morning. I would say there was 15cm or so on the car this morning to move. Nice and cold too, wrap up well to get out and enjoy nice dry snow conditions. While we haven't had huge snowfalls, we have been getting these consistent topups and it's building up nicely. Not that we'd say no to a huge snowfall of course. We are expecting less snow over the next few days, though we might get the occasional snow shower. Next Years Day looks interesting though with a good chance around then of heavy snow along with stormy windy conditions. The roads have packed snow on them, it's nice and cold, and we got 10cm or so of fresh snowfall on the mountains. What a good way to spend Christmas!
