  • Yuzawa Now: Friday 10th January 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 208cm Posted on Friday 10th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A very good cold and snowy morning from Yuzawa. It was snowing for most of yesterday, heavier as the day moved on and this morning we have an extra 30-40cm of snowfall to report in town. Resorts around town are also reporting about the same numbers down to base and so we have a received a very nice conditions refresh and it should be great out there wherever you choose this morning. A moderate wind in some places on mountain but that doesn't seem to be affecting lift operations as far as I can tell. The latest local Niigata forecast has just been published and we are due another 10cm of so from now until 4pm today. In fact the snowfall is due to continue into tomorrow, perhaps easing off by Sunday. I think most people though would be happy for heavy snowfall right through! Monday is a national holiday in Japan and so it's a 3 day weekend coming up. Always busy this weekend, so if you are planning to come an early start is recommended. Like I said above though, whichever skijo in the region you choose conditions should be really good this weekend. I will of course bring you another update tomorrow morning. --- Official resort snow depths @ Friday 10th January 2014, AM: Naeba: 150cm Kagura (Tashiro): 220cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 190cm Gala Yuzawa: 220cm Iwappara: 130cm Yuzawa Kogen: 180cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 95cm Yuzawa Park: 140cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 190cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 180cm Joetsu Kokusai: 130cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Friday 10th January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 208cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 21 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 30cm (16th December and 10th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 72cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 11th January 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 248cm Posted on Saturday 11th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. What a day yesterday was! As you can see from the report, the day started off with a good new thick layer of snow and it was snowing and forecast to be snowing. Late morning though and the sun was peaking through and then all of a sudden... blue skies! The clouds cleared and we were left with magnificent blue skies with just a few small clouds hanging around. Probably to enjoy the view. Beautiful it was. And the snow refresh helped a lot as well. The slopes generally were quiet and I think everyone who was able to make it out would have had a really great day. While we got those blue skies, by the time evening came it was snowing again! And snow it did, with about 40cm of fresh snow this morning. I say about 40cm, in places it is more than that in some less but that's how much the snow has increased according to my trusty ruler and what's on the cars outside. Needless to say, another good new layer of snow. Interestingly, Naeba is only reporting 5-10cm and Kagura only 20cm and so we seem to have got more down here in the valley than up there - or should I say down there, as they are to the south of the main town area. It continues to snow this morning. The last two days have really changed things here - while we had 'enough' snow before, it just wasn't ENOUGH. If that makes sense. The last few days has given us some renewed deep conditions. In the meantime today is the first of three holidays and so the popular resort areas will be just that today... popular. It will probably be busy for the next few days. The other news for today which I mentioned last week and just reminding you, is that from today the top pair lift at Kagura opens for the season. A few conflicting forecasts for the coming few days. Some are saying that we can expect sun tomorrow, others more snow. We'll just have to wait and see. --- Official resort snow depths @ Saturday 11th January 2014, AM: Naeba: 150cm Kagura (Tashiro): 220cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 210cm Gala Yuzawa: 240cm Iwappara: 165cm Yuzawa Kogen: 220cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 105cm Yuzawa Park: 180cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 245cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 210cm Joetsu Kokusai: 160cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Saturday 11th January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 248cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 22 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 112cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 255cm Posted on Sunday 12th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. At one point in the late morning yesterday it felt light it might end up similar to the previous day, as the snow clouds cleared leaving us with a bit of blue sky and sun over the valley. That didn't last long though and a new wave of snowclouds moved in and at times it was falling heavily around lunchtime and early afternoon. This morning there's around 5-10cm of new snowfall to report at town level. Kagura are reporting 10cm. It dipped to about -6 degrees overnight and as of 9am is about -1C. The sun is out this morning, just a few wispy white clouds here and there but mostly blue. It should be a very fine day. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. 50cm. That's what Kagura are reporting this morning. A cool half m. 30cm at Naeba. 40cm on the top of my car here down in town. Maiko Snow Resort (under?) reporting 15-20cm. Whatever, bottom line is that we have had a lot of snow overnight, and it's still snowing quite heavily this morning. Go back to yesterday and for most of the day until mid afternoon we enjoyed blue skies over the region. Some cloud but the sun was out for most of the time. By mid afternoon though the clouds had moved in and by evening it was snowing. Result, the new snow this morning. Visibility generally poor this morning and a moderate wind. Not the kindest of conditions, but the snow will be great. Snowfall should ease off later today, though we might see clouds delivering their thing through into tomorrow morning. After that, clearer on Wednesday and Thursday looking at the latest local forecast. --- Official resort snow depths @ Sunday 13th January 2014, AM: Naeba: 160cm Kagura (Tashiro): 240cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 290cm NASPA Ski Garden: 245cm Gala Yuzawa: 280cm Iwappara: 170cm Yuzawa Kogen: 240cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 120cm Yuzawa Park: 190cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 260cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 180cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Monday 13th January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 295cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 24 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 159cm reported on 9 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 310cm Posted on Tuesday 14th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing yesterday for most of the day, easing off in the evening and when I was out shovelling snow last night it looked like the skies were fairly clear. We are back to light snow falling this morning and the mountains covered in cloud. There was about 15cm of snow since my report yesterday. Resorts around the towns seem to be reporting 5-10cm overnight. The local forecast tell us to expect the day to end up just cloudy, and keeping cold, to be followed by a sunny day tomorrow. After the busy weekend at many places, it's back to a normal weekday so feels much quieter this morning around town. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After a mostly cloudy day yesterday snow started falling mid afternoon and continued overnight. Nothing major to report this morning with resorts throughout the town reporting 5cm of new snowfall. That's about how much there was on the car this morning as well. Up to a further 5cm or so is expected before this evening as it continues snowing now. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. And a very good Sunday morning to you all from Yuzawa. A very snowy Yuzawa as well. Yes, the goods have been delivered to us overnight and there was more than 30cm of snow on top of my car this morning to move. Resorts around the town are reporting similar numbers - Kagura 40cm, Naeba 20-30cm, Maiko 30-40cm... a nice surprise to wake up to though the forecasts late in the day yesterday were pointing to a good amount of snowfall overnight. It is still snowing this morning and probably will be for the day so we should add to that. Kagura is experiencing some strong winds and so limited operations there this morning. Looks like Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Number 1 quad and Tashiro Ropeway to Tashiro Number 1 quad areas are open. The top Kagura Number 5 lift, Number 4 lift, Dragondola and connection between Kagura and Tashiro are closed. Tomorrow the sun might make an appearance but come Tuesday we should be back to snow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Just a thin layer of snow on the top of the car this morning here in Ishiuchi just to the north of Yuzawa (which is where I am this morning), but it will be pretty much the same a few km to the south. Looking around the resorts this morning, resorts are reporting up to 5cm apart from Kagura which pulls through with 20cm being reported, presumably up top. That's where the fresh is this morning my friends! Weather wise the skies have cleared and it's bright and sunny as of 9:30am. Snow is forecast to be falling by the time the ski lifts close for the day today and also tomorrow. If the forecasts are to be believed, we might see a decent amount of snow overnight meaning tomorrow should be particularly good. Tuesday is also looking interesting snow-wise. • Yuzawa Now: Thursday 23rd January 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 403cm Posted on Thursday 23rd January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing for most of yesterday and it is snowing this morning in Yuzawa. Kagura is reporting up to 30cm of fresh and I can personally vouch for close to that amount that I had to move off the car since yesterday morning. The snow is due to stop around lunchtime today though leaving us with just cloud. Perhaps even some sun. Tomorrow is when it starts to warm up. The forecast is for a clear, sunny day from early on and a high temperature of +5C in the afternoon. Saturday should continue being mild and there's a chance of rain but if we're lucky that will turn into snow before long. We're hoping that the milder conditions will only last a few days and we can get back to cold early in the week. Today though snow conditions should be great, and then tomorrow remember the camera. --- Official resort snow depths @ Thursday 23rd January 2014, AM: Naeba: 180cm Kagura (Tashiro): 260cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 310cm NASPA Ski Garden: 275cm Gala Yuzawa: 320cm Iwappara: 215cm Yuzawa Kogen: 270cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 160cm Yuzawa Park: 190cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 285cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 290cm Joetsu Kokusai: 220cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Thursday 23rd January 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 403cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 32 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 267cm reported on 17 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
