Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 348cm

Posted on Sunday 19th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

And a very good Sunday morning to you all from Yuzawa. A very snowy Yuzawa as well.

Yes, the goods have been delivered to us overnight and there was more than 30cm of snow on top of my car this morning to move. Resorts around the town are reporting similar numbers - Kagura 40cm, Naeba 20-30cm, Maiko 30-40cm... a nice surprise to wake up to though the forecasts late in the day yesterday were pointing to a good amount of snowfall overnight.

It is still snowing this morning and probably will be for the day so we should add to that.

Kagura is experiencing some strong winds and so limited operations there this morning. Looks like Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Number 1 quad and Tashiro Ropeway to Tashiro Number 1 quad areas are open. The top Kagura Number 5 lift, Number 4 lift, Dragondola and connection between Kagura and Tashiro are closed.

Tomorrow the sun might make an appearance but come Tuesday we should be back to snow.

Oh yes, just a quick recap on yesterday. By noon it had turned overcast and by the time it was going dark it was very cloudy. The rest is history with the snow we woke up to this morning...
