The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . I wasn't quite expecting to be reporting rain this morning but unfortunately that is what it is doing at the moment at town level anyway. It is snowing higher up now and with temperatures due to decrease during the day though it should hopefully be quickly turning into snow in town as well. We still look good for decent snowfall this weekend, so I'm looking forward to bringing that news soon. Today sees Naeba part open and the Tashiro part of Kagura open as well. With Tashiro opening, most of the Kagura areas are now open. As mentioned on the Naeba Now report this morning, that's very good going for early December. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . We're back to the clear skies this morning in Yuzawa. The sun is out and all is calm. The calm before a storm perhaps? Those snowy conditions for the weekend are still on the forecast, though it does seem to have been delayed slightly with things kicking off later on tomorrow rather than later today. We'll just have to wait. For now though, a fine day in the area. Tomorrow, Naeba and Tashiro will open up for the first time. Details on the Naeba Now page. A few other resorts in the region planned to open tomorrow but with a lack of snow lower down that is not going to happen. They'll just be in standby mode waiting for that snow to fall! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . There's not much to report this morning.... after a lovely day for the most part yesterday, it's more cloudy this morning. We might just see a spot of rain or sleet today but nothing major. The forecast for the weekend though is promising in terms of snow with decent amounts forecast to fall on the mountains and down to town level as well. There's also a chance of strong winds with the snow. Of course this weekend sees the planned opening dates for Naeba, Kagura (Tashiro), Iwappara and Joetsu Kokusai. While the first two are ok for an opening, town level resorts aren't ready yet and will need the weekends snowfall to be able to get themselves into a position to open. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday was a beautiful day in the region but this morning the clouds are back and it's raining in town and actually feels fairly mild. Snow up at Kagura. Hopefully it won't last too long and soon be sleet and then snow, though the snow around town had pretty much all gone anyway so it's not really the rain doing the damage. As long as it's snowing up top where they have their snow base. This coming weekend is now looking likely to be the first considerable snowfall of the season down to town level with heavy snow likely on Saturday and Sunday along with strong winds. We're still a number of days off, of course, but that's how the forecast is at the moment. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . All change early on this morning in Yuzawa. Some cloud over Yuzawa still but just to the north in Minamiuonuma clear skies have started to open up after the snowfall of yesterday and the sun is shining down. Everywhere is looking nice and white as well around town. Snow is still thin on the ground at town level but this morning we have the most we have had so far. There was the usual mad rush for changing tyres to snow tyres at the gasoline stands around town yesterday. This morning Kagura are reporting 20-25cm of fresh snowfall since yesterday and so people will definitely be able to enjoy their time up there this morning. We're probably not going to see it last though with decent conditions today and sun and warmer temperatures forecast for tomorrow along with some rain around Tuesday. It's looking good for some consistent snowfall higher up from Tuesday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It's snowing here in Yuzawa this morning with a few cm of snow on the ground once again. If the forecast is correct we should be seeing snow fall for pretty much all of the day and hopefully into tomorrow so fingers crossed it might bring us a decent 'result'. It is actually getting colder as the day goes on and we are now hovering around 0 degrees and destined to get down colder into the afternoon and tomorrow. The snow will likely ease off by tomorrow though and then we are on for a milder Monday before a chance of more snow Tuesday. The weather still can't make up it's mind, it would seem. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . I have snow to report this morning. It was snowing for large parts of yesterday and while we are looking much whiter this morning there's not a huge amount on the ground in town to report. 5cm or so in places, and as you go north into Minamiuonuma any snow on the ground has already gone - for now of course. This morning the sun has been out. There's a fair bit of blue sky up there but cloud hanging on as well but generally a bright and sunny morning. As noted on the Naeba Now page, Kagura has now stopped the shuttle bus service at Mitsumata because you can now use the Mitsumata lift and ski to the Kagura gondola. So they have obviously been on the receiving end of more snow and now lay claim to 100cm up at Kagura. Right now in Yuzawa it is about 5C and will likely rise to around 9C. Taking a look at the forecast, the next snow is likely Friday night into Saturday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Last night we got rained on and blown about by some pretty strong winds but this morning it has been trying to snow and indeed right now is snowing. It might still be wet snow, but it's snowing and the forecast is for that to last the day so hopefully we might be much whiter by the end of it. Higher up it has been snowing properly with Kagura resort reporting 10-15cm of new snowfall. Still some strongish winds up there and so not the most friendly of conditions but the new snow should make up for that for the people making it out there. Tomorrow we will likely be seeing more of the sun and warmer temperatures. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . The sun is out and it is a beautiful morning in the Yuzawa region. A lot of people have been up at Kagura enjoying the first weekend of the season. And a decent start to the season as well, I would say, with the main Kagura course, Technical course and Giant course have been open. The resort says that they had up to 5cm or so of fresh snowfall overnight and now 70cm. Looks like it will be raining tomorrow. Borderline rain or snow for higher elevations. After that, we should see some fairly bright and sunny conditions in the week... it's not looking much like there's good chances of decent snowfall just yet. In the meantime, Kagura should satisfy any of those strong first slide urges! We're still a number of weeks off the planned openings of most of the resorts around town... The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Yuzawa. Another dusting of snow overnight though with the last few days seeing the snow line move back up the mountain after that fall last week, we are still looking mid-season with autumn colours still on show on the lower mountains. This was mentioned on the Naeba Now report yesterday, but Kagura have confirmed their intentions to open on Friday 23rd - the day after tomorrow! Get to Kagura on Friday and be at the Mitsumata Ropeway between 2pm and 4pm and you might be on for some free 'tonjiru' soup and 'oshiruko'. How about that then?! So Mitsumata Ropeway will be operating from 8am on Friday and then people will have to take a shuttle bus from the top ropeway station to the base of the Kagura Gondola. The Kagura Gondola will then take people up to the main Kagura area of the resort where 1500m of course should be open. They are even planning on having some of the 'Kagura Park' facility up and running from day 1. Exciting times. There's not a great deal of snow on the week long forecast at the moment, even at Kagura. But it does seem like they have enough and each day now the snow making machines are busy pumping out some man-made snow to help things along on top of the natural snow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. There's some news... The lift at Yokoteyama will finish up the season tomorrow, Thursday 22nd May. Tomorrow is also the day when the section of Route 292 re-opens allowing you to access Shiga Kogen via Kustasu in Gunma Prefecture. As far as I can tell, the Shibutoge ski lift still seems to be scheduled to be open until Sunday (25th May). Looking at various forecasts, it does look like we can expect a variety of weather through Sunday. It's nice this morning but rain is due later in the day, along with perhaps some thunder. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It kept on snowing all day yesterday with strong noisy winds at times. Overnight more snow and there's up to 20cm or so on top of the car since last night so add that to what we got in the daytime and there's a good new layer of fresh snow on the slopes this morning. Kagura are reporting 50cm of snow since yesterday, and as the top was closed there yesterday conditions should be pretty amazing up there this morning. Got to be careful not to get stuck in it! Conditions should be great pretty much everywhere today. Light snow is still falling but it is bright and feels like it is going to clear up. There is some blue sky visible up there and my guess is that give it another few hours and we'll be enjoying clearer and sunny conditions. A quick look at the forecast... warmer conditions tomorrow and even the chance of rain before we switch back into snow mode? Noooo! Collective fingers crossed please.
