Strange weather conditions alert! Yesterday we saw more rain than snow in town unfortunately, though it was snowing higher up and it did eventually turn into snow in town last night and we had about 5-10cm or so this morning on the ground. Earlier on, there was actually lots of blue sky up there and the sun was out, though since then the clouds have moved back in and I am glad to report that it is snowing again.
I was talking with a friend who lives nearer Niigata city to the north and he said that they had 20cm of snow, so perhaps it's one of those 'satoyuki' (snow on the plains) things that we see a few times in the season. Hopefully the snow will see fit to move in on the mountains soon.
5-10cm of snowfall is forecast between now and late afternoon in the region, with snowfall likely to continue into the week. Would be good if it turned into that blizzard we were expecting. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow morning.
