It is one of those mornings when it is difficult to put a number on how much snow has fallen. Let's just call it a lot. I'll tell you what the resorts are saying. First up the headline is a whopping 60-80cm of new snowfall at Kagura. Naeba are saying 40-60cm and resorts around town have said between 30cm and 50cm. A lot.

Good news from Yuzawa this morning as snow has been falling the second half of yesterday. There hasn't been a huge amount on the ground and resorts around town have been reporting between 5cm and 15cm of new snowfall.

The snow didn't make it's way down to this region yesterday and this morning we have another clear and bright morning... more blue skies and the sun shining down and a temperature of 2C now in town, with a high of around 6C forecast this afternoon.

There's some cloud up there in places but lots of blue sky as well and the sun is shining through and casting shadows this morning - it's a fine, calm start to the day and currently around 0C. I was hoping to be reporting snow but we haven't had any snowfall since yesterday. When will the snow arrive? Perhaps some later on, as it is actually snowing more northerly parts of Niigata this morning.

Yesterday did indeed end up being a wet day out there. Rain. Even higher up on the mountains it seems and you can see how the snow depth numbers have for the most part taken a dip today... the rain without doubt didn't do the slopes any favours.

It ended up being a fine morning yesterday and most of the afternoon as well, just some wispy clouds forming over time. But generally a fine and mild kind of day. It was mild overnight and this morning it's almost warm here in Yuzawa. Right now it is 7C. Rain is still very possible, likely even, but for now it's just cloudy.

Just a sprinkling of new snow in town this morning with higher elevations reporting up to 10cm or so. The day started off cloudy and while there are still lots of cloud up there, there's more blue sky opening up and the sun casting shadows in places. The forecast has the sun doing it's job today and conditions clearing up with a high of around +5C later on.

Some great conditions out there yesterday along with sunny blue skies as well. It kept cold out on the mountains as well, which was good. Very fine day.

Yesterday was a bit of a wild day out there with strong - and often very noisy winds - along with the snowfall and cold conditions. No doubt more than a few people decided to make it an onsen day and hope that today would be better weather-wise.

Noisy strong winds blowing about this morning in the region. Most importantly we have another layer of fresh snow to enjoy with the most being reported by Kagura - up to 30cm. More like 15-20cm in town, and the snow is continuing to fall. Very wintery cold temperatures as well, right now it is -5C and it doesn't seem to want to warm up any either.

It was cold overnight and some icy conditions on the road this morning. The sun has been out though and the day started off with some nice blue skies over Yuzawa. The sun is still shining down on us though there seems to be more cloud gathering to the north and the forecast does tell us to expect snow clouds to move in and snow to be falling later on.

It started snowing yesterday later in the day and this morning the results of that are about 20cm around town and up to an impressive 50cm at Kagura. It's about -2C in the town and not much of a wind at the moment, though stronger winds are forecast for later in the day.

Yesterday ended up being wetter than hoped with rain falling on and off, lighter and heavier in places around town, for most of the day and into the evening.

It has been a cloudy start to the day in Yuzawa with some rain falling earlier on but holding off as I write this report. It's a mild 5C at the moment and rain is forecast today still and so there is a good chance of that happening... indeed it is actually raining now in Minamiuonuma.
