LARD 0
My Japanese friend's father died recently and because of all the inheritance tax they have to pay, the family are going to actually end up WORSE OFF than they were before (or that is my understanding anyway). They have a nice house and I thought were faily well off. It just seems ridiculous.
sanjo 2
Same in many countries. Don't sort your money out and you end up paying the government.
BagOfCrisps 24
The moral of the story is - get your money/investments sorted! Unfortunately, the vast majority of people just don't and end up paying more to 'the country' than to their offspring.
grungy-gonads 54
I wonder what % of people do NO planning like that. I bet it's up in the 90s.
scouser 4
I know of a family back near home who got stung real bad because they hadn't done anything about it. The kids of a modestly wealthy guy ended up with virtually nothing. Bad taste.
slow 0
My company has a new project to build an apartment in Setagaya. This project is land-space exchange system and there is a big old house which the owner family lives and beautiful garden in the site. We are going to break down everything there and build brand new apartment. We think it's ridiculous, too. But the owner can't do anything. Their grand father made a fortune but his offspring couldn't keep it. This is the reality. If you were born in a rich family, you have to work so hard and make more fortune to defend your property. I think my company is stupid, too.
big-will 7
They have to move and can't do anything about it? Aren't they being bought out?
rachael 0
I'm sure there is not a simple answer to this, but... how does one avoid inheritance tax??
jared 0
I have no idea, but a guess might be to sigh over your stuff before you die. At home the way around all that stuff is family trusts.
Fattwins 0
thus the gift system handing over your stuff before you die. the govt. wants to raise the gift tax in the future so it wont make much of a difference
