Do you think the Japanese will ever stop using the heisei/traditional way of saying what year it is? ie this year is heisei 16. Has there ever been any talk of that.

I'm not Japanese of course, but it's a complete pain and it seems to be for quite a few Japanese too when they try to calculate things etc. Is it just me or is there more 2004, etc now than there used to be.

I can never get used to years in that system. I may be wrong but it often seems that Japanese need to think a bit when thinking about years pre-heisei or whatever. Seems like a daft system to me. Are there any reasons to continue?
